UMass fired their basketball coach McCall - is he of any relation to our former football OC?

Anyway, Yale’s head coach James Jones is on the rumored shortlist. Would we have any interest in dipping back in the Ivy League coaching pool once CCC departs?

Last year, the coaching carousel, in P6 conferences, included the following hires (I'm including Cincinnati here as that's a very good job):

1) Cincinnati - HC - mid major
2) Boston college - HC - mid major
3) North Carolina - AC (internal) - high major
4) Iowa St - HC - mid major
5) Oklahoma - HC - mid major
6) Texas - HC - high major
7) Texas Tech - AC (internal) - high major
8) DePaul - AC - high major
9) Marquette - HC - high major
10) Indiana - AC (NBA)
11) Minnesota - AC - high major
12) Penn St - AC - high major
13) Arizona - AC - high major (considering Gonzaga a very good job here)
14) Utah - HC - mid major

I was a bit surprised how many coaches came from assistant positions. Is that normal? If not, is that a trend?

Looking at a break down:

Those hired from assistant coach positions - 50%, or 7
-2 internals
-5 externals
-7 came from high majors (considering NBA a high major)

Those hired from head coach positions - 50%, or 7
-5 from mid majors
-2 from high majors

So when hiring assistants, they come from high majors. When hiring head coaches they tend to come from mid majors.

Kind of put the "Could we hire an established guy?" into perspective

Good stuff, Gato. And to piggy back my craziness, only two of them had no P6 experience - three if you want to be technical and not count 20 years at Gonzaga the equivalent of strong P6 experience.

To be realistic, if you can't get an experienced P6 coach, then all the interviews go to mid-major head coaches with P6 experience. And watch their mid-major records against P6 teams.
