With minny and michigan doing better, our ncaa hopes ride on the michigan game. Losing 3 out of the last 4 is putting pressure as feli addressed earlier. LouV was premature claiming we stamped our spot for the ncaa with the wisconsin win. We still need 3 wins to get better than equal chances of dancing. Looking like nit unless scottie comes back.

I agree with you that Lou and others are ahead of the gun bc NU can still finish 8-10 and honestly, as a fan who has sat in the same seats at Welsh-Ryan since it opened in '83 (I was 13 then) I have 31 seasons full of reasons to be full of doubt.

NU is now solidly in the second tier of the BigTen with Michigan State 8-5, NU 8-5, Minnesota 7-6 and Michigan 7-6.

The good news is that most brackets have all 4 of the second tier teams, assuming they finish .500 in the BigTen making the NCAA.

But that's getting ahead of ourselves, I really want the double bye for the BigTen tourney. So lets take a look at the four teams battling it out for 4th place because its not likely a team in the top 3 will drop back.

Michigan State has the toughest schedule: At Purdue, Nebraska, Wisconsin, At Illinois, At Maryland.

Then Minnesota: Michigan, at Maryland, Penn State, Nebraska, at Wisconsin.

Michigan and NU are pretty similar but Michigan's is a little harder.

Michigan has At Minnesota, At Rutgers, Purdue, At NU, Nebraska.

NU has Rutgers, at Illinois, at Indiana, Michigan, Purdue.

Assuming that every team wins games against the teams they are ahead of in the rankings:

Michigan State 2-3 and 10 - 8 overall.
Minnesota: 3-2 and 10 -8 overall.
Michigan: 2-3 and 9-9 overall.
NU: 4-1 and 12-6 overall.

Of course the odds of this happening are not that high but this why most people have NU in the tourney. NU has games to give and a schedule that looks favorable on paper. Of course, the reality is that NU is playing down its leading scorer and becomes a middle of the pack team without him.

I guess my point is that if the Michigan games determines whether the Cats make the tourney or not, the wheels will be off the bus.

The way I see it there are several combinations of getting in or not still on the docket. Winning this Saturday is all that matters at this point.Winning the next game has to be the focus.

Is Michigan our last regular season game? Heck, I hope the refs don't screw us like they did last year in the Big Ten tourney with that missed traveling call on Michigan that essentially ended our upset bid and season. Because I have a troubling feeling that that game might decide our post-season fate. If history is any indicator, we may be in more trouble. I know we don't have any place near UM when considering their basketball tradition, but that refs' call was total bs. Hopefully, this will be "our year."

This year is different, we will be fine. Let's win out.

I don't disagree with going at least 3-2, but why is Michigan any more important than the other 4 and why would losing to Michigan equate to losing 3 out of the last 4 - are you assuming a loss to either Illinois or Indiana?

The way I see it is we can't futz around with Illinois or Rutgers. Those two have to be convincing. Michigan will be a bit harder, but at least at home. Purdue will be a challenge (obviously) regardless of the venue. I have no idea what to think about Indiana. They certain have the talent to beat NU handily, but they may be playing out the string at this point.

If NU beats JUST Illinois and Rutgers, then I'll be nervous, but I'd feel good if NU wins its first BTT game (since it's likely to be against a team near the bottom of the standings).

As an NU fan, I count nothing as a done deal of course, including wins against anybody.

Just win.

Scottie is back.

Would you guys buy it if I were to suggest that if we're close enough to even be in the discussion; closing the season with a win over Purdue would cinch the deal? That seems plausible to me, but what do I know?

I don't understand why you keep giving credence to Feli's nonsense while simultaneously harping on a single post from Lou in the immediate aftermath of the biggest win in program history.

This makes your posting credibility suspect.
