New arena.

First of all, North Carolina only played at Northern Iowa because they had a player from the area. Secondly, Kansas, UNC and UCLA are NOT ever stepping foot in Welsh-Ryan (or whatever they wind up calling the new arena), whether it's 6,800 capacity or 10,000 capacity. If Northwestern becomes a consistent competitor and there is a Chicago-area recruit they want to impress, they might consent to meet us at All-State Arena or the United Center. But power programs like that aren't going to give us a true home game -- they don't have to.

Bingo.

I agree completely. My point was that our capacity is not one of the reasons why UNC/Kansas/Kentucky/etc. will not be coming to Evanston any time soon. The reasons you list are the relevant ones.

I think we should be able to get games with the next tier teams like Oregon, Gonzaga (rematch?), Florida, Louisville... the #2 or #3 program in a P5 conference, or the #1 program in a mid-major. I think they'd welcome the Chicago area exposure for their programs.

I think you misunderstood. I was sticking up for you old pricks. People want to blame the peeps in the purple seats for not rising out of their seats, but the problem isn't that they don't get excited but rather they simply have a tough time getting up, due to the limited space and old knees.

Thanks (I think). ; /

Although I may be old, I'm not decrepit. Standing and cheering was not out of the question for myself and those like me. But with the limited space between rows in the old WR, especially for those of us over 6 feet tall, it ain't easy.
Agree with jules that a lot of Purple Seat STH's have actually said they buy their tickets to show their support of the team and help the program, but then show up only occasionally.

If that is their purpose, what prevents them from making a direct donation to the AD (in an amount equivalent to the cost of the ST)? Then NU could sell the seat to someone who actually intends to use it most times. to cheer the team on (NU gets double income for the seat).

I understand that today in the Chicagoland the vast majority of NU's home BkB games can be watched on TV (or online) through the BTN or an appropriate network. And for certain profile of people, watching the games at home makes far more sense (it's far more convenient and comfortable, even with a renovated arena).

A key motivation to watch the games in person would be to actually cheer the team on, but if they are unable or unwilling to do so when they do show up, then for them to watch the games at home might benefit all involved.

Thanks for the interesting insight on the Northern Iowa game. Also I agree that games against the likes North Carolina and UCLA would likely not be played in W-R even if the capacity was 10,000, although I was there in the 50's when they played Kansas and Kentucky, dirt floor and all. They also played games against West Virginia, ND and I think UCLA in the old Chicago Stadium in the 60's as part of double headers. I realize that quite awhile ago but think it would still be good to see NU play those caliber programs, even if it means playing at the UC or Rosemont.

Doubt it.

Some good ideas:
The Claw (imagine the visual we could use)
The Catacombs (we are the Wildcats but might be too long)
The Jungle (has connotations of wildness and fear and doom!)

Probably worth having a vote - and then starting to use. Others might jump on and adopt our name.

Are you addressing me or talking to someone else? It will interesting when Collins has the Cats in the top 25 and would like to schedule the likes of North Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas and West Virginia only to be told that they won't play ibn a 6,000 arena. Solution would then be schedule the game for the UC or the Horizon or only play them at their full sized arenas. Could be very frustrating for coach who wants to put his stamp on a growing NU program.

I'm not sure why scheduling a marquee home game at the UC is a frustrating thing. You make it sound like that would be a bad thing.

Brown Town!
Taphorn to Pardon was "The Play." We were robbed vs the Zags by "The Call." And in 2018 we will begin play in what should affectionately be referred to as "The Palace." Fans can be part of the Palace Guard. Lends itself to a sense of defending a landmark of great symbolic significance. Connotes a sense of not taking ourselves too seriously.

And while it may be small by state school standards, the Palace will be right sized for NU, first class in many ways ... and most importantly, it will be our's. So let's celebrate it in the most flattering way. Who cares what others may think? We will have the last laugh when they scoff. It will be where we witness an era of success and celebration once thought impossible. Very befitting if you ask me.

Gritting my teeth and refusing to get pulled in again...

Can some posters here do me a solid and wait a few minutes to respond to a Feli post to allow the mods a chance to delete said post? Thanks much!

Schools like North Carolina promise a recruit that they will play in their home area in or as close to it as possible. That is why you see Carolina playing in some of these places. Dean smith started this year's ago.

Once again: Ignore is your friend.

It is not about Ignore. It is about posts the mods themselves are deleting. Some posters are thwarting the good work of the mods by quoting posts that will obviously be deleted, particularly from Feli.

Do you really like censorship that much? So someone disagrees with you... delete it, why?

It causes NU students and fans travel time and money and it also cause NU money to rent the other place, thus losing income. Did you happen to notice the large NU crowd present during the NU-Dayton game at the UC?

You seem to have developed an unhealthy obsession. Stop it. I'd suggest that you find ways to leave me alone. As others have suggested, the ignore function is available. That is just like if every one of my posts was deleted...as far as you are concerned. Far better than trying to spew your vitriolic venom wherever I post.
For the record, if the mods wanted, they could also delete replies, I suppose. Perhaps they don't on purpose. But what do I know?
Please, ignore me. I mean it.

I am not advocating deletion of posts; I am saying that if a post has already been deleted by the mods (as is the case with a signficant percentage of Feli's posts) insta-replying (and quoting) posts that are subsequently deleted only defeats the purpose of what the mods were doing It only gives Feli the attention that he so desperately wants for posts that the mods have already determined to be unsuitable for this board.

Sorry but I'm surprised a bit disappointed that you advocate censorship on a Northwestern University message board. Why?

I'm sure he advocates censorship on other boards too. :D

I'm glad this discussion came up. At one point last week, I counted 110 posts by Feli over a five-day period. And I counted at 10:30 am on day five.

I don't care who it is: nobody wants to write about NU basketball THAT much.

Lou and the moderators, you might want to consider this is more than just the pure joy of talking basketball.

If nothing else, you might want to see if some coding can be developed that cuts off ALL users at xx posts every day. If you can't get what you need out of your system in xx posts, something is wrong.

I agree with everyone who is not a fan of censorship. God knows I've deserved it several times. But there is also an extreme point after a certain number of posts where it's bad for business, bad for the experience and nobody gives a damn.

Agree that there should be a certain time frame regarding how many posts an individual type. However their others who also post excessively and are not censored. Why is that?

There hasn't been anyone who posted at this rate, and for this long.

If I reeeeeeeeeeeally stretch to consider, MAYBE in the wake of the Carmody dismissal, some of the nut cases were breaking down at this rate. But even then, I doubt it.

But you do have to hand it to Feli. That kind of dedication is tough to fit into a 24-hour day.

You nay be right but their is a certain guy who loves watching the Cats and I guess posting very frequently from his comfy couch. I have him on ignore.
