Fox can play Sam quite well as could Jango. Fox elected to get shoulder surgery because he wasn't seeing the field. He could have played on it like he did last season but elected to have the option of transferring healthy. Fox is a very good linebacker.
For all of those poeple who think players shouldn't get a slice of the revenue because they already get a "free" eduction, more examples of the price these kids pay to make the adult coaches rich. Brutal sport, takes its toll on all players and many have serious physical issues.
 
Fox was playing on special teams (kickoff coverage) earlier in the season, and he made some solid downfield tackles. Surprised he didn't see any playing time at LB, especially when Hall went down in the Michigan game. Best of luck to him in the future.
Each week the linebackers have to learn the opposing teams offense They have to learn all new calls and defense formations. Fox wasn't learning the Sam position, he was learning the Mike He was back up to Gallagher and Fisher Jango when healthy was the back up to Fisher and Fox the backup to Gallagher. Bergen was the only backer that was behind Hall
 
Fox is done. It wouldn't be career ending. But Fox will either retire or graduate transfer. He elected to fix his shoulder that he has been playing with because he wasn't playing
