An own goal in the 86th minute knocked the Northwestern men's soccer
team out of the NCAA tournament in the round of 16 Sunday night at
Louisville.

The Wildcats and Louisville were headed for overtime when a
Northwestern player headed into the net a shot that looked as if it were
going wide. That gave the Cardinal a 2-1 win.

Bad end to a good season. The Louisville player created space when one on one but the strike was poor and going well left. An NU defender came in late and because the ball was wide made contact with it. NU must have really pressing to score for the back line to allow that to happen.

I was following it on Gametracker. Thanks for the description, elgatoloco; I'd been wondering what kind of fluky bounce would result in an own goal like that. Deflating way to end an otherwise strong season.
