Northwestern to Host Wake Forest in Big Ten/ACC Challenge
EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern will host Wake Forest at Welsh-Ryan Arena on Monday, Nov. 28 as part of the 2016 Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
Tip times and television distributions will be announced at a later date.
The matchup will be the first ever between the Wildcats and the Demon Deacons.
Wake Forest posted an 11-20 record a year ago, including a 2-16 mark in ACC play. Rising sophomore guard Bryant Crawford is slated to be the team’s leading returning scorer after averaging 13.8 points and a team-leading 4.4 assists per game for head coach Danny Manning.
Northwestern is 7-10 in its first 17 Challenge matchups, including an 81-79 overtime win at Virginia Tech last season. The Wildcats won four consecutive contests in the event from 2008-11.
ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will combine to televise all 14 games of the three-day event matching top college basketball programs playing for conference supremacy and the Commissioners Cup. All 14 games will also be available via WatchESPN.
The Big Ten captured the Commissioner’s Cup last season, winning eight of the 14 matchups. The ACC won the first 10 Challenges (1999-2008) while the Big Ten has won five since (the conferences tied in 2012 and 2013). In the event of a tie, the Commissioner’s Cup remains with the conference that won the previous year.
