Oh well, THT is out

I think that anyone paying attention should have known that THT was not coming to NU. He seems to believe he could move up to the NBA after a year or two. This takes a quality education out of the mix. Remember when Michael Thompson transferred from Duke, he ran into some hot water for not showing up to class after game days. He stated that at Duke they didn't need to so assumed the same rules applied. I am sure NU would still have the same requirements. Many of these other schools may be a little more lax on their students. When your 16-17 years old do not expect to complete your education the easy road may be the one that is more attractive. I am not saying that this is his reasoning, I do not know him, but the possibility is real.

This is not a big deal. Although THT would have been nice the NU staff knew it was a long shot. This is just feel and interest through the recruiting process.

It has been about Young, Kopp, and possibly Bey for a few months

Hey Heywood - Did the Horton-Tucker recruitment really take a nosedive after Baldwin left? Or was it just one if those things?

I think this is a VAST overstatement of THT's abilities. ...

Agreed. Slim chance of making the NBA. If so, he'd be like a Denzel Valentine all four years type. But lets be real about focusing on his education if Tre Demps and Sanjay can get a professional contract Im sure THT will have a comfortable fall back option playing in Europe when its all said and done.

just one of those things i believe. once his stock really took off and got some big offers, his recruitment changed.

the NU staff would love to have him, but they also feel strongly about the other recruits too. they had offered kopp, bey, and tucker at the same time, and were prepared to get 1-2 of them. they all fit a need and role. if one guy all of a sudden lacks interest and is playing the field, so be it. the NU staff likes to zero in on guys they like and have mutual interest from. that changed with tucker.

Sour grapes post #1...

I think Chicago HS basketball is about as corrupt as D.C. politics. I have no evidence of this whatsoever, but feel it anyways.

I'm concerned about the perception of NU at city schools in Chicago. Privileged, snooty, nerdy, etc. Perhaps some of it is true. But it's also an amazing place/experience/springboard with rapidly improving athletics and a fan base somewhat keeping up.

I wonder how much of an impact Baldwin's departure had on THT's recruitment, and also what this means for NU's chances with the up and coming Baldwin.

Disappointing. If I had to put money on any recruit commiting to NU 6 months ago, it would have been THT.
You gotta wonder what Duke did to land guys like Parker and Okafor(who were his recruiters at Duke?)......there have been others too(Magette)...

There is large difference in the Catholic league schools and the CPS schools. St. Rita (Vic Law) and Simeon (THT) in regards to the level of education provided. As for the NBA, 6'4" tweeners (meaning guys who are in between positions have difficulties dominating in college let alone the NBA as they might have in high school (e.g. Jae'Sean Tate at OSU who was ranked higher than no. 100). But good luck to THT at whichever school he chooses.

There's a big difference within the Catholic league in regards to the level of education provided. There are some CPS schools that are basketball factories but also very good academically....Morgan Park and Whitney Young come to mind. You can get as good or better education at those CPS schools than many Catholic League schools.

The odds are much better for NU to recruit a kid out of MPHS or Young than, say, Simeon where less than a third of graduates are deemed prepared for college.

Oh well. I suspect THT has always had his eyes firmly fixed on the NBA. I think he would like to be a one or two and done player for someone and probably will be if he picks the right situation. I wish it would have been with us because he is a terrific player but agree that both NU and THT had moved on long before he issued his copious list. CCC's program is really not structured yet for one or two and done players and that might well have been another reason for the mutual falling out. So come on CCC, go close the deal on Kopp or Bey and we will rightfully call it a great year.

I don't know what happened, I would love to have added him, and he may have well been our best recruit had he recruited, but THT is not a one or even two and done. Not even close.

While too bad, hardly a surprise as the tea leaves were indicating interest elsewhere.

But eh, as long as the 'Cats land Bey or Kopp - would be very happy w/ the class.

I'm already very happy with the class! :)
