This has been a brutal game for the Boilermakers and their fans-OSU ripping PU 38-zip in the 1st half. Purdue justfumbled after an OSU td and OSU recovered & ran it in for yet another td. Hopefully we will play better against the Buckeyes than the Boilers next week. I can’t attend but a group of fellow Omega Sigs will be going to the game at Wrigley. Go Cats!

OSU is loaded but PU looked bad, too. They didn't utilize Mockbee as they should have.

We should play better than that but a) don't trust our offense and b) the dreaded Wrigley curse. Prefer shite weather at Martin to slow them down and temper the yahoo crowd

This IU team is frickin ridiculous. How the hell is this possible? IU has been a football wasteland. What on earth made all these transfers want to go there?

It seems hard to believe, but we may have better QBs than mighty Michigan. How can a powerhouse like that have nobody ?

Indiana is stalling and faltering under the lights. Come on Hoosiers.

Cignetti's offense might be the reason. I was hoping Bajakian's replacement would be somebody that brought in a single wing variant or the air raid. Having an offense that would tend to produce big numbers stat wise is what brings in the better skilled offensive players, not new stadiums or practice facilities. The kids want big numbers to get into the NFL or at least have a shot at the NFL. If NU doesn't want to utilize NIL, then it at least needs to come up with an OC that brings in a dynamic offense.

Cognetti doesn’t run either of those, he’s just running a pretty basic RPO heavy spread (and like a traditional spread where it’s just lots of 11). Don’t get me wrong, it’s a strong offense and to me that sort of scheme is table stakes. It’s just a very well executed RPO scheme with talented weapons who make basic plays dangerous and an excellent QB.

And a really good, fundamentally sound offensive line

They had a pretty good season with Penix, too, during the COVID year.

The calendar mostly. The portal was just about closed by the time finished playing and McCarthy (and Harbaugh) made their NFL decisions.

Nobody was likely to come in to the system until after McCarthy declared for the draft and there wasn’t really anyone going into the portal during the spring.

That's an easy question to answer. Many of them came with Cignetti from an excellent JMU team, and the star quarterback and wide receiver came from Ohio U. It's not as if the Coach attracted top level talent from across the country. Some of the folks on this Board and on the NU coaching staff need to come to grips with the fact that there is some excellent talent in conferences like the MAC.

They knew McCarthy and Harbaugh were leaving for the NFL well before they made their formal announcements.

I know he doesn't, but that was what I was hoping for with the new HC or OC. I would be fine with Cignetti's offense as well. The program isn't going to really compete to be top echelon in the B1G with what we are running now, only recruiting 3 star quarterbacks in the process.

I would actually prefer what Cignetti runs. Going full air raid seems like a weird cultural fit at NU, but a modern RPO spread should be the ticket. Still primarily a run-heavy offense with some better use of space and a reason to get outside athletes excited to show up. Also I just like it, aesthetically, so I'm biased.

I disagree. There was no way of knowing that the Chargers (or another team) would actually make the offer to Harbaugh, much the same way Minnesota flirted, but never extended an offer the year before.

Ultimately, I think Harbaugh would have been inclined to stay, but once the Chargers offer was in hand, and Michigan’s administration and Regents had indicated they were firmly behind AD Manuel, the competitive gear kicked in to overdrive and he departed.
