New Market Day at VMI is a special day and worth the trip if you are close by.

I've driven by the New Market battleground off I-81 many times. Is it worth a visit?

A competitor of my company is headed by VMI grads, the Gottwald family, and they named their company New Market. It is listed on the NYSE as NEU. A guy I worked with is a VMI grad, probably the only Jewish New Yorker to graduate from that institution.

VMI isn't grand like West Point or in a scenic setting, with utilitarian military motif buildings. But definitely worth a visit. Sits in the historic town of Lexington. Decent restaurants as I recall. Also VMI is immediate to Washington & Lee, an historic institution as well. Haven't been to the New Market battlefield area which is north of Lexington. I don't think you can go wrong.
