Maybe one of our more mathematically driven minds can figure out a fair grading system and tie breaker. Here are my game by game predictions for 2021. I reserve the right to change these up until September 2nd.

Home vs MSU - Win!
Home vs Indiana State - Win!
@Duke - Loss :(
Home vs Ohio - Win!
@UNL - Win!
Home vs Rutgers - Loss
@Michigan - Win!
Home vs Minnesota - Loss :mad:
Home Io_a - Loss :mad:
@Wisconsin - Loss 🤕
Home vs Purdue - Win!
@Illnois - Win!

7-5 (5-4 in conference) seems reasonable with this schedule, plus or minus a couple of games. If we have another solid season after last year’s, our program and recruiting will maintain the momentum we regained last year. I dropped my prediction by two losses given the early injuries to Porter and Franks as we’ll likely have more over time.

If our over/under for wins is 6.5, I’ll be happy with anything over at this point.

It wouldn’t shock me if we win the B1G West again, but I also wouldn’t be shocked if we had a tough season given all the roster turnover and risk of COVID.

Don’t blame me, I’m a tried and TRUE NU fan. Go Cats!!!

Home vs Ohio - Win!
@UNL - Loss, for some stupid reason
Home vs Rutgers - Win!
@Michigan - Painful, gut wrenching Loss
Home vs Minnesota - Win, gotta beat FlimFlam Fleck
Home Io_a - Loss - it's their turn
@Wisconsin - Loss 🤕
Home vs Purdue - Win!
@Illnois - Win! Bert slips and falls on the way into the stadium

8-4 with either a win in the Astro-bluebonnet bowl equivalent that no one sees or a loss to an P5 team in larger bowl.

Here's Bert falling

That’s a lot of exclamation points. I think wrassler has hacked your WR account and is posting under your handle.

I have a feeling we're in for something similar to phatcat, but I would just hate the thought of our 4 losses all being the 4 games we'd want to most win (UNL, Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin).

I think we beat 1 or 2 of those and lose 1 or 2 elsewhere; otherwise end up the same 8-4 and hopefully win a bowl.

Our solid OL itself is worth wins, however we are going to need near perfect QB play for many of the other games plus LBs. On paper, it would be a decent coaching job to go 7-5. This is an incredible transition year with almost zero depth. A few covid isolations will challenge our team further. Yet, we have young talent so next man up might not be a big dropoff.

well, it's an annual tradition for the Cats to have an upset, then step in dog crap another game. If I had a choice of which games those were, I'd switch out Ohio U and Michigan.

NB - I am hopeful that a Michigan game wouldn't be an upset - say we are 6-0 and they've lost 2-3 already

Home vs Michigan State - Win

Away vs Duke - Loss
Home vs Ohio - Win
Away vs Nebraska - Win
Home vs Rutgers - Loss
Away vs Michigan - Loss
Home vs Minnesota- Win
Home vs Iowa - Win
Away vs Wisconsin- Loss
Home vs Purdue - Win
Away vs Illinois - Win

Start 4-3 with the usual stinker to Duke (and this year Rutgers). Lose a heartbreaker in Ann Arbor, but eventually the defense finds its footing, Fitz rights the ship and the ‘Cats take 4 of 5 to close the year.

8-4 (6-3); NU heads to Vegas or returns to Nashville and wins. 2022 looks very promising for a return to Indianapolis.

Depth = experience.
I think all teams have 85 players but when folks talk of depth, in sports, it is assumed to mean experience.
That said, a team could have inexperienced players but have the talent to fill in the gap and offer comparable productivity.
Hope this helps. Lol

You beat me to it. that is my prediction also.

I don't see us losing a game this year if the team meshes from MSU forward.

Ok here’s the tiebreaker between you two: by how many points will NU defeat OSU in the championship game?

Two sets of predictions:

1) If one of these QBs steps up and is a player....
Home vs MSU - Win
Home vs Indiana State - Win
@Duke - Win
Home vs Ohio - Win
@UNL - Loss
Home vs Rutgers - Win
@Michigan - Loss
Home vs Minnesota - Win
Home Io_a - Win
@Wisconsin - Loss
Home vs Purdue - Win
@Illnois - Win

2) If we are stuck without a performing QB....
Home vs MSU - Loss
Home vs Indiana State - Win
@Duke - Loss
Home vs Ohio - Loss
@UNL - Loss
Home vs Rutgers - Win
@Michigan - Loss
Home vs Minnesota - Loss
Home Io_a - Loss
@Wisconsin - Loss
Home vs Purdue - Win
@Illnois - Win

Just realized how favorable our schedule is.

@Duke -Win!
Home vs Ohio - Win!
@UNL - Win!
Home vs Rutgers - Win!
@Michigan - Win!
Home vs Minnesota - Win!
Home Io_a - Win!
@Wisconsin - Win!
Home vs Purdue - Win!
@Illnois - Win!

vs. Ohio State @ Indianapolis - Win!

vs. TBN in CFP Semi-Final - Win!
vs. TBN in CFP Championship - too close to call

MSU - Win
Indiana State - Win
Duke - Win
Ohio - Win
Nebraska - Win
Rutgers - Win (Close, like 21-20)
Michigan - Win
Minnesota - Loss (Just a bit better than Rutgers, but both efforts will be subpar)
Iowa - Win
Wisconsin - Win
Purdue - Win
Illinois - Win
Ohio State - Loss
USC OR Oregon OR Washington - Win

12-2 - Rose Bowl Champs.

Love your optimism. I still think we can have a winning season, but per my original post I reduced my projections to 7-5. Every 12 game season is a war of attrition, and we just lost our best RB and third OT.

And last year we lost our best OT (Salter), our best WR (Skorownek), our best DE (Miller), our best Safety (Whillock) and our best RB (Bowser)

We go 8-4 in the regular season and we win our bowl game regardless of who we play. Also we may go plus or minus one game.

I agree that we lost our best OT. The other four claims you make test the bounds of logic. RCB and McGowan had better seasons in Jake’s system than Benedict would have. Miller wasn’t our best DE, Brown was. BJo and Pace were both better then Whillock. And Bowser had been seemingly sapped of his potential by multiple injuries.

If Tyus can replace Porter as adequately as Skoronski replaced “Salter”, then I think you’re on to something. But who steps up as our third OT and can stay healthy? We have a bunch on the roster, but are any as “game ready” as Franks was?

I think the point was no one knew last August that RCB, McGowan, Joseph and Brown were going to step up like they did. It’s revisionist to say otherwise because there was no on the field evidence to support such a claim. Brown and McGowan were certainly talented, but there wasn’t much production to show for it to that point. RCB struggled with injuries after a few flashes early on and Joseph had never started a game. Therefore, Bowser, Skowronek, Slater and Whillock were the top players at their respective positions because they had a proven track record.

It’s possible guys like Hull, et al ball out in 2021 just like the aforementioned quartet did in 2020. Fitz’s program is quite good at developing players, after all.
