football won't need the practice field behind the softball field once the Taj is completed.

Does this mean softball will finally get some bigger and newer facilities for games and practice?

I know we redid it a number of years ago when the administration was embarrassed that our team played in a little league quality facility when we went to the World Series.

But...I've seen othe college softball facilities and we are way behind the times.

Frankly these ladies deserve it. Unlike the men, who have wallowed in mediocrity for decades, the women have won championship dos and gone to the Ncaa's multiple times.

The men got their new home. Softball deserves better in my opinion.

Crickets chirping....

This might not be a universally shared opinion, but in my view, softball doesn't deserve anything more than the likes of Fencing (where NU also does well with). It should be happy if it gets anything riding on the coattails of the revenue sports, which I am sure they will. Title IX is already screwing things up for hockey and Men's Lacrosse. Any investment decisions should consider ROI. If anyone else gets facility upgrades, it should be whoever is generating revenue for the University.

LOL!!

ROI - with that attitude you wouldn't have invested in a men's baseball program that hasn't done shit for 50 years. They have brand new digs.

Go tell the women softball players what you think while they try to compete for recruits with UCLA, Arizona, Michigan, etc. etc. I'm just saying...top caliber national softball programs have better facilities. It would take that much money in the scheme of things to really upgrade their facilities. All the other non revenue sports are getting upgraded with the Taj and lakeside field improvements.

I was just trying to get a conversation going about what all the spaces up at Central Street get used for once the Taj is completed. I think it opens up lid of possibilities for athletics

Agree with you. The NU athletic department seems to have the philosophy "In It to Win It". If they are going to pay coaches and award scholarships, then the expect to compete without one hand tied behind their back. While I think it is crazy to have a baseball team, NU has certainly shown they are committed to giving it a go with decent facilities and apparently an excellent Manager. The softball facilities seem fit for purpose, they are much nicer than the old baseball stuff and will likely get incremental improvements as time goes by. If financial RI were driving the athltetic departments decision making, they would axe all Men's sports except Basketball and Football and field only enough Women's sports to equalize the Men's scholarships per Title IX. Thankfully, they don't take such a narrow view.
