Rashawn Slater is one bad MFer starting at LT for the 3-1 Los Angeles Chargers, knocking off the previously 3-0 Raiders.

Will he be the best professional football Cat of all time when all is said and done? Fans wanna know.

3 NU football alums played for the Chargers in their big win tonite over the Raiders. Slater had another solid game at OT, Jackson saw some action on offense both rushing and receiving, and Gaziano was activated for this game and contributed with a big sack on Carr late in the 4thQ. Something to cheer about at least. 2 solid wins in a row by the Chargers vs AFC West opponents.

Could end up best in the modern day for sure (by a fair distance) since Barnett got here.

But above Otto? That's going to be tough to gauge. He's good enough to attempt to be an all-time great at the very least, which says plenty about his talent and ceiling.

He is having a great rookie year. But topping Otto Graham's success is a steep mountain.

There’s an argument to be made that Jim Brown and Otto Graham were overrated. I’m not saying that I agree, but there’s a case to be made.

Slater is looking like an elite modern LT and making an impact in a much more difficult era for players. I can’t believe how dominant he’s been as a rookie who didn’t play last year.

As a brand new rookie tackle, teams are moving their best pass rushers to the opposite side of the line. That is respect.

Had great coaching and guidance, but now the staff are all bums. At least that's what I hear you screaming daily.

False. I’m a big fan of all of our coaches - except for one - and am a yuge fan of what I’ve seen from Anderson. To state otherwise is blatantly inaccurate.

And how am I screaming? I don’t have caps lock on and have avoided exclamation points.

Way to turn a positive post into a negative attack, bro.

Your 1st sentence about Otto Graham and Jim Brown would not be what I consider a positive post. Both of those guys were incredible athletes. Many consider Brown the greatest lacrosse player ever as well as NFL HOF. Otto played in the NBA before the NFL and was an excellent golfer and tennis player. I guess old people don't like to be told that their accomplishments were not very good. Sorry, Bro.

Bro, Jim Brown was not only faster than most of the defense - he was also bigger than most of his offensive linemen.

And Otto got to hand the ball off to him.

Did you play with them? How are their accomplishments yours?

Am pretty sure their NFL playing careers didn't overlap.
Dang!! I could have swore they had a few seasons together. Otto got to throw the balls to “gluefingers” Dante Lavelli, Mac Speedie, and they both had “the Toe” Lou Groza.

Plus don’t forget that they both played for the best head coach of that century, Paul Brown.

So you can understand how I became befuddled in my old age.

Sounds like the beginning of a great argument for a case, that could be made, that he was overrated…

Comparing modern players to historical players is always just sort of pointless to me; like when people try to compare Michael Jordan to Bill Russell.

What's the point? Completely different eras, completely different game.

Sports have changed so much over the past 50 years in terms of how they're played, what strategies are used, etc. there's just no point.

If Slater gets a bunch of Pro-Bowl nods and plays for teams that have good playoff runs, he'll be in that discussion for sure.

Jim Brown was easily the best NFL back of his era. And he was considered so at the time. He led the league in rushing 8 of his 9 seasons. It is pretty hard to overrate that.

Please bone up on your NFL history.

Bro,
Please study up on your NFL history! For his era Jim Brown was very fast, agile, and tough. However, not bigger than his OL nor faster than all his opponent! Never took a hand off from Otto, who retired in 1957. Otto has the best winning % (84%) of all NFL QBs, best yards per completion in NFL history (8.9 yds), and was 9-3 in NFL playoff games with 6 NFL Titles (plus 2 AAFL League Titles). Didn't play with him but knew him and was fortunate to spend alot of time at his Potomac. VA home and knew wife and family well. His wife was a very wealthy Hoosier girl and also met her parents. She served me a drink in 1967 that I found incredibly refreshing that she called Arnold Palmer iced tea. Home brewed because she had it at Arnold and Winnie's house and Winnie shared the secret recipe. Ever buy any lately? Never played with either but they were emblematic of my era. We played golf at Congressional Country Club which is a fabulous facility. Any other questions?

You kind of missed the point of my post.

Old age?? Oh my goodness.

Kid, I'd give ANYTHING to go back to my 40s... and you ain't even there yet. Enjoy your youth while you can, CMT. You're still just a young whippersnapper... so am I, compared to some on this board. But its gonna get a little harder about a decade from now.

Rebel is anything but a rebel. His support of JON is now tucked in the closet much like corbi and coral. Instead he claims you hate all the coaches. Is Rebel JON himself?
Fans wanna know.

Just one bad take after another. Needs work.

Which part? It was a different era and comparisons between QBs/RBs then and now are impossible to make. I read thst Groza was the largest OT when he played and he was, what, 6’3 and 250? Look I don’t see the need to engage in a back and forth when my main point is that Slater looks incredible. As a thought experiment: how many yards do you think a RB like Derrick Henry would have put up in the 1950s? Just like Jim Brown, vey few defensive players could effectively tackle him.

I’ve never watched game film on Otto, but what little I’ve seen of Slater in the NFL is beyond impressive.

Does anyone have film on YouTube on Hinton back in the day? I’d love to see that when I have downtime to compare our two Pro Bowl OTs.

Laughable! I just love NU football and am with them through thick and thin. [65 years of rooting] All hands on deck. This is a tough stretch and the way through it is to work together (team/coaches) and get it corrected now. I'm not listening to those who aren't there and don't know. Are there problems: obviously. 'EFFIN FIX THEM!!! (the way Fitz decides)

Thats why you experienced dark ages. And thats why this program is doomed, ie., no accountability.

In life, only very smart people realize that it isnt wise to keep decisions in the hands of one person.
Could be sports, govt, church, etc.
Corporate accountability ALWAYS starts with x > 1.
Fitz has decided. He is keeping failure. Recruits will scatter like roaches.
Im not saying longtime fans are wrong. Nothing wrong with keeping things like a social club. Id still have my courtsides!

Is that why control freaks like Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, and Dabo Swinney are so unsuccessful in college coaching???
