I would like to see NU clean up during the bye is the discipline offensively. Through the first six games so many penalties have put them behind the chains. Or have killed the possession. Is it just me or is this uncharacteristic of The Cats? They usually if nothing else have been well disciplined.

Penalties are going to happen if a team is playing aggressively. I can’t recall too many pre-snap penalties, which are the most worrisome. Some holds, Olges in particular has to learn that blocking on the edge is in plain view for the referees.

We had one false start which I believe was right after we advanced due to a penalty on Howard. We’ve had delay of games coming out of timeouts or breaks. There was a false start called on the center. We had an illegal man downfield which maybe you could excuse as aggressive play but it still hurts.

Now that you mention it you’re right. Seemed like Wrather wasn’t on the same page as Sullivan, can happen sometimes with a backup QB. The man downfield was a broken play.

This sounds negative, but I feel like a lot of the holds are desperation because our guy is beaten.

And some of these holds are behind the play. Yesterday wasn’t the first time this year a false start was called on the center. How is that even possible?

NU had 8 penalties for 87 against Minnesota. It was easy to lament ‘all those plays brought back by penalties’, but in actuality, a large percentage of those gains were *because* of holding penalties.

The OL isn’t very good, and often has to cheat. Better things next year with a leadership change, and hopefully they can improve the rest of the way.

What leadership change? HC, OC, OLC. OL?

What happened with Coach Anderson? Was he the beneficiary of Slater and Skowronski? I thought he was a highly regarded coach. So much for thought.
Slater and Skowronski were NFL players the day they arrived. (An overstatement, and Slater was a recruiting find, but those guys came in June and started in September. They were ready.)

Anderson was available to spend a year as a volunteer at *Northwestern*.
