Hate to say it, but this has all the makings of a blowout loss. If I was a betting man and not an NU fan, I'd be ALL OVER Oregon -9.5. They are on a five game losing streak and desperate for a win. They looked a lot better in their last two games, both close road losses at Michigan and MSU. Now they get to come home for a "get right" game against a banged up NU team in a game that starts at 10PM Central time. All the cards are aligned.

Would love to be wrong of course, but this one is screaming 20+ blowout loss in my eyes.

I tend to agree with you, but maybe this is the annual unicorn game.

Yeah it’s not a good matchup for us - no question - but “that’s why they play the games” 🙏

Or not a blowout loss, but one of those we get down by 20 but make it "respectable" at the end and the final score is like a 9 pt difference.

This is a weird one for me. I'll be there in Eugene tonight wearing purple and 100% behind the Cats but I'm a lifelong Oregon fan and usually wear green when I'm in that building. But for one night I'll root against them.

I write about HS hoops in these parts and I covered Oregon's PG Jackson Shelstad frequently. I watched him light up Bronny James in HS. I fear he's a bad matchup for what we have at PG, he's really tough to stop and generally looks to score more than distribute.

The Ducks are talented but streaky, and often play very loose in a bad way with a tendency to take bad shots. They're 16th in conference play in KenPom offensive efficiency. They have a pretty firm 8-man rotation, and their scoring is very balanced among the starting 5. They only play one guy over 6-9 and that's 7-footer Nate Bittle, who's a stretch 5 on offense but a good shot-blocker on the defensive end. They can look very good, as they did in leading MSU 50-36 at halftime, but also very bad as they did in being outscored 50-24 by MSU in the second half.

As usual, if NU can make open shots it could be a close game. I think we lose, but the vibes aren't great around Oregon right now.

That is an interesting one for you - have a great time.

I couldn't pretend to know nearly as much about Oregon basketball as you do, but five game losing streaks, no matter how they look or who they are against, are going to get some bad vibes going. They are a lot better than that streak though. I want the Cats to surprise me, but this just feels like one of those games where they are ready to win and will be focused to get it done.

Yeah, Oregon overachieved a bit early in the year with wins over Alabama and Texas A&M and there was some thought they could be an elite team, but they've slipped back into the talented-but-unfocused rollercoaster that Altman's teams often become. Losing at UM and MSU is no shame, but they were dismal in a home loss to Nebraska and lost 109-77 at home to Illinois. They do have a recent track record of slipping into the tournament as a low seed and winning a game or two, and they may just end up in that 8-11 range again though they do have 8 Quad 1 wins.

All that is to say I could easily see us winning this game or losing 94-60 depending on if the Ducks decide they want to play tonight.
