I love how Odell Beckam essentially made the same catch as McHugh and everyone thinks it's the greatest catch ever.Pretty good, but I still like McHugh's catch last year against Iowa (if only because he is a Wildcat). http://btn.com/2014/11/01/video-northwesterns-mike-mchugh-makes-slick-one-handed-grab/ We may need similar heroics against Iowa this week.
Vault's catch would have ranked up there if it had counted (and it should have).

For everyone sleeping and thus missing Stanford's late night blowout of UCLA....watch the highlights, and you'll see the most insane catch ever.
How is that a catch? The ball is lying on the ground at the end and he only has one hand barely grasping the end of the ball. Is that completed catch rule only for the NFL?
Grasp and control. Does he really control it?
It looks super cool...but that's not a catch.
There used to be language about making a "football move" but that could have been the pros. He was certainly down when the ball came loose. Great play and concentration and he just defined one of the limits of the rules. Why not? Does the rule say it has to be against your own body? His hands clearly had control and it didn't come out until well after he was on the ground.
For those wondering, here is the video:
I'm no ref and I'm sure that play must have been reviewed and upheld, but I just don't see how that's a catch. Trapping against your opponent means you don't have control yet. Its not incomplete yet either until it hits the ground, but the ball clearly hits the ground when the two players fall. At that point, he only had one hand on the ball. Oh well... they won big anyway and it has to help our power ranking! Why not? Does the rule say it has to be against your own body? It most definitely is a catch. The receiver had complete control of the ball as it was sandwiched against the defender's body, and with control, the receiver's body hit the ground. By rule, the play ends then.
