I thought this NYT article about Bob Hurley might be of interest to basketball fans.

Coach Hurley led the basketball program at St. Anthony’s in Jersey City for decades. I attend a national holiday high school tournament at Torrey Pines HS near where I live every year and enjoyed watching him coach when his team would come to town for the tournament. The article describes how Coach Hurley has remained active since St. Anthony’s closed leaving him without a coaching job. His son Bobby coaches at Arizona State and his son Dan coaches at Rhode Island so his coaching tree legacy endures. There are also additional articles about the coach and the closing of St. Anthony’s bringing the demise of one of the most storied high school basketball programs attached to the link above.

The gradual demise of Catholic secondary schools is unfortunate. These schools often supplied kids with an alternative to inner city public schools, possibly insulating them from negative influences of their community

Coach Hurley kept St. Peter's going for several years but he was pushing a string
