What a disappointment Fleurima ended up being. Had he hit he could have been a program impacting player by giving us a legitimate outside weapon that we've not had in many years.

Not fair to look on any one kid and expect them to be a star for sure, not even a 5 star. I wish him well. But shoot.

If I recall he was a 4 star so yes I’m calling him a disappointment as a player. Cmon.

I believe the warm reception Fleurima gets at his new school will be his first reception since coming to NU.

Merde. I like him. We have trouble keeping DBs
This is exactly what I thought would happen. I remember getting excited about him earlier in the season and I may have even made a comment that he'll probably end up transferring. With all the other challenges we have as a program, this one may be the scariest. If every young, under-recruited player comes here and has a good year or two, ends up transferring out, it will make it even harder to enjoy Northwestern football. We can't even get excited about young potential, because they likely won't make it to be upperclassmen.

Does this say something about what money we really have to throw around or something more concerning about it the culture of the team or neither just people looking for new opportunities.
It’s not always going to be solely about the money with all these kids.

Hopefully we can bring starters in to replace the starters we're losing or even upgrade. Last year that didn't happen to effectively. One would think the new nil money we have should make things better.

Turner has been really good, that’s a hard replacement. One hopes that they were able offer him a piece of the “enhanced” NIL to stay. Either way - if they offered and it’s not enough for him to stay, or if they didn’t/couldn’t offer, or if he wanted out regardless - none of those are good possibilities.

Turner lost reps throughout the season. Don’t get me wrong, I like him and wish we could keep him but Walters and Fitzgerald were increasingly getting more playing time from this staff. Still need more depth. There is a very good safety from NDSU in the portal. Hopefully Braun can work his magic with one of his former players.

Thompson is the much bigger blow and tougher to replace.

This was pretty easy to see happening. NU made a poor decision to just hand the job to Braun after last season. The new college football landscape had been defined and NU put in charge a guy without any consideration of the need to recruit and retain talent.

He was just named BIG Coach of the year. Were they supposed to fire him?

No one else was really interested in the job last year given the circumstances surrounding the program at the time. FItz, Schill, Gragg, lots of players leaving, two years without a true home game. Who was going to sign up for that? Our situation is much more stable and attractive now.

Braun was obviously the decision last year, but the new availability of significant NIL money changes the game and raises the bar. He has a lot to prove this offseason.

No one was interested after we won 8 games? It prob would have been different if we’d waited.

Moot now and he’s prob gone after next year anyway but I think it would have been a different situation.

Again, why would you fire the BIG coach of the year? If the team stinks again next year, then he is gone. New stadium, commitment to NIL (allegedly), BIG money. The job will be far more attractive than it was last season.

This is not my opinion. This has been discussed based on feedback from people inside NU. Apparently Bronco Mendenhall was the only outside candidate who showed any legitimate interest.

Personally, I'm rooting for Braun and (most of) company. If they show progress next year, with more potential for 2026, I vote he stays. If not, good luck finding the next coach, savior. That can be a crap shoot.

Braun was hired November 15. I’m talking about interest in January after bowl season.

Nebraska has been looking for their savior coach for a couple decades after firing Frank Solich because he only won nine games a year.

What? Are you actually advocating that NU should have fired Braun and hired a new coach a couple of months after Braun was given the permanent job? Stop with the silly talk.

When the coaches weren’t interested we were in a much different situation: desperate with a garbage season looking us in the face.

Braun’s hiring was announced on Wednesday, November 15. It probably means they were working out a deal for the prior week or so. Call that November 8.

On November 8, NU was sitting at 4-5 coming off a loss to Iowa. Then a win against Maryland the following Saturday.

The difference in the attractiveness of this job from the beginning of September to the beginning of November to the beginning of January is massive. You still have the downsides of Gragg as a lame duck AD but a team coming off a bowl win is a different team. Tell Braun he can be DC again and give him a raise.

This is stupid talk.
