How important is footspeed in a CB?

I mean, I suppose you need something to stay up with streak plays, but can you be a top notch corner without pure foot speed?

I realize pure speed does not a great corner make, but I would think it's still pretty important if you need to catch players who run by you, or if you want to make a play downfield after busted coverage or in the box tackling, especially against playmakers who do have the speed.

The new commit, apparently has all the skills you'd want in the corner except the speed. He was rated the #2 CB in Georgia (#1 committed to UGA) despite the lack of speed. That's a helluva thing to say.

How can you be a true shutdown corner without the speed? I guess in the short game you could be, but how are you gonna cover the long ball?

Some are comparing this pickup with McManus because we picked up a late verbal from a kid with only Division IAA offers, but McManus had blazing speed. Is this really comparable?
