On Monday, they learned their 7-foot NBA prospect Magoon Gwath is gone into the transfer portal. Think he will be looked at by some BigTen programs.

This Aztecs freshman is a top prospect who is moving on. He’s injury-prone so his future career may be in question though he will be recruited by top programs. The reality is that lesser monetized programs like San Diego State can’t compete against programs in the large conferences like the BigTen with lots of money. SDSU has been a frequent flyer in the big dance under coach Dutcher (and Coach Steve Fisher prior). I believe Gwath might be a good fit for a BigTen program (don’t know about his academics.) He needs to bulk up but he has a lot of upside potential if he can stay healthy.

BTW- amazing finish to the Colorado State / Maryland game. The MD freshman made an amazing bank shot to win the game just before the final buzzer. I thought CSU had it in the bag with under 4 seconds left. Clutch play!

Hmm, I seem to remember that not too long ago SDSU had all but told the MWC that it was going to be joining the Pac-12 Conference (when it was still a P5), so they sure seemed to think of themselves as Power Conference-level at that time.

Yes the PAC-12 conference rebuild has been a failure so far. The Mountain West had 4 teams in the big dance (none are left). The Aztecs continue to do well under Dutcher but the MW conference and individual programs are struggling to raise money. On the other hand, my other school UC San Diego made its first big dance appearance and played well. Their program has steadily moved up over the years.
