Absolutely, that has to be the expectation. Not necessarily that we win it, but we absolutely should contend and have a great chance to win it all. Who do you put above NU? We're certainly in the top 3 or 4. At least according to pre-season polls, for whatever they are worth. We return more than anyone else and we were already in the top half of the league. Our best players return and we are increasing the talent and depth.

Shouldn't be a surprise that these guys think we have a good chance to win the league. I'd be surprised if anyone thought we didn't.

Per the Coach K plan, for which we are right on schedule (if not slightly ahead), we should be getting to our First Final 4 this year too.

Agree NU should be in the top 3 or 4. MSU will be heavy favorites to win it, they have the best coach and the best player plus have restocked with 2 highly rated recruits and the return of 2 5th year guys who were hurt last season. Minny and Purdue will be very good. Iowa could be a dark horse to join NU in the top tier, and Scottie mentioned PSU. Should be an interesting season at the top of the league.

At the end of the season, I feel like something clicked with the guys. I might have been when Scottie was out or when he first got back but wasn't at full strength. Anyway, it seemed like they played with more intensity and an attitude that they truly believed they should win games rather than they could win games. I think that attitude will remain from the start of this season because so many starters coming back.

They proved something last year but I think they know there is more to prove. There are some good reasons why this team could be and should be better than last years. I think they will make some teams look like they are totally lost this year.

Agreed on the way things clicked at the end of the season. The Maryland game in DC was one of last season's underrated moments. We made a second-half charge in a hostile environment with toughness on both ends. It's always tough to get 10 wins in the Big Ten, but there's no reason we can't do that again as a baseline.

Sorry, but they don't have the best coach. If you could trade Izzo straight up for Collins, would you do it? I wouldn't.

I'd make that trade in a heartbeat. Collins is still learning, Izzo is one of the 3 or 4 best coaches in the country. Remind me, how many times has Collins beaten Izzo?

I'm not sure. I think you re right that Izzo is the better coach today but Collins could very well be the better coach over the next ten years and certainly the next twenty. I think Collins might be the better coach of tomorrow and since we can't do anything about the past decade, I'm going to put my dreams into the next decade.

Agree with your points. The question about who is better refers specifically to the 2017-18 season however, and this season MSU has the better coach (best in the Big 10). Izzo is 20 years older than Collins so (obviously) Collins is a better bet for the next 10 to 20 years.......

Besides. We really cannot get Izzo and at 62, he is closer to the end of his career than the beginning like Collins is so I will stick with Collins
