Season is over

Everyone realize how valuable BMac is to this team now? No way we lose that with him out there. None.

In fairness, the season was already over. Nothing short of winning the B10 tournament gets this team to the postseason. I don’t think this outcome changed that win or lose.

I wish the season were over. We still have to play for another few weeks and watch more of this sad story.

No one can drive and marginal athleticism. Gavin Skelly has perhaps the dumbest play I’ve seen in years. Collins needs to get 2 ballhandlers. This is what happens when u get 1 every 4 years.

Wrong. Survive this game, keep hopes for the NIT alive. At the very least, .500 conference record looks very doable. Not so much anymore. BMac might be done for the season.

Gavin had a number of terrible plays tonight; have no idea what in the world he was doing out there.

Nah.

We've discussed postseason hopes in other threads and it was clear that NU still had life prior to this game. After this debacle, the 'Cats would need win out and go on a run in the BTT to even have an outside shot at the NIT. NCAA hopes are officially dead outside of winning it all in MSG.

Not a good look for the program tonight.

Why can’t anyone on this team dribble or create their own shot?

“Wrong” may be a little strong considering it’s a matter of opinion. Just my opinion that what I stated is the only way we were going to get to postseason play.

Either way, it’s a terrible loss. I’m not downplaying that.

Jonny, there are metrics (tiered wins, SOS, RPI, etc) behind post season selection. It's not an entirely subjective process.

Okay. If we would have won out and won 1-2 Big Ten tourney games, we would have quite likely gotten to the NIT. Fair enough, I can admit I was probably wrong with that statement. I’m also a pretty big proponent of reality though.

Bryant goes down and Isiah still doesn't get a shot. We flat out couldn't score and one proven scorer doesn't leave the bench for more than a couple minutes. Collins is off his rocker this year.

Careful Mikey, Evanstoncat (a while after he predicted a final 4 from this year’s team), was asking Lou to ban ALL posters who say anything negative about anything NU.

I think this would qualify.

According to John Templon (the GUY who does NIT bracketology), NU was currently on the bubble (6 seed) prior to tonight. Not trying to be a pain, but your original statement (and amendment) was probably more than a little off.

Sadly, the point is moot with tonight's showing in Piscataway. That was a season wrecker.

Besides the xx guy’s post, I see some frustrations with the way he played and some criticisms of his weaknesses (which despite being a B Mac fan, he does have some) but no one saying (in so many words) that we are better off without him. So I’m not sure where you’re getting that from...

But this really doesn’t matter, so I’m sorry I got us down this pointless path.

He’s still a rookie.

You have to trust that there is a reason that Isiah is not playing that you do not know about. Haywood has implied as much, and I trust Collins. Doesn't help that Isiah was terrible tonight when he was in there.

I’m a big Collins fan. But playing the last 20 minutes without a PG on the floor when one with a ton of experience is on the bench was an odd decision. Yes, I’m aware of doghouses, but that doesn’t make sense to me...also not fouling when up three. I think you have to foul when the game clock gets under 10 seconds and you are up 3. Not Collins’s best game tonight in my opinion.

He’s a rookie. He’s learning. He’ll improve.

Let’s give him time to adjust to a non BC roster.

He played 9 minutes, had zero points, committed two turnovers, and had not assists and a foul. I'd rather have Scottie run point than see more of that, and we wouldn't even be haivng this conversation if Gavin was not a one-man wrecking crew (3pt play foul, doesn't close out on Sanders on the final 3 to tie the game, wrong foots layup at the end) to close it out.

Your season was already wrecked if, with 6 games left to go, you were looking at NIT Bracketology.

I think that depends on your expectations. I never bought into the "we've arrived" thing that some posters were throwing around last summer. Top half BIG talent? BIG title contenders? Final Four? Seemed way too premature.

For the time being, any season that ends with at least a NIT bid is good by me. Losing to Rutgers (regardless of their scrappiness) is not.

Yeah, right! Last year was just terrible. You really need to go away.

If you go 1-5, you bat .200. That’s awful.

But your one single was pretty good when it happened. But then you add in the 0-4 and realize you had a really crappy game and at that rate you’ll be cut soon.

How about if you take the 0-fer like Carmody did?
