NU just released its first injury report of the 2015 season:

- Freshman LB Simba Short is out for the season.

- Senior G Matt Frazier, freshman T Adam Lemke-Bell and redshirt freshman DT Fred Wyatt are out for the season opener against Stanford.

What it means: Frazier's absence will further jumble the OL and really throws the guard position up in the air if Geoff Mogus stays at tackle. With the retirement of Sean McEvilly, Wyatt being out, and Greg Kuhar and Tyler Lancaster both coming off of injuries, NU will be awfully thin at defensive for the opener against Stanford. And that's a power running team that will test NU's interior defense.

Frazier must be hurt pretty bad if he is out more than 3 weeks before the game. I wonder if he will be back for Duke?

I will try to verify it at Media Day later today, but from what I understand it is not an injury.

I dont believe you will have to worry about the DL.

I did confirm that it was an illness, not an injury, that has sidelined Frazier. He's much better now, but he did lose quite a bit of weight, so we'll see how quickly he comes back.

I know Wyatt had an injury before he got here and maybe it's just my impression, but we seem to be getting a lot of freshmen injured the past few years before they play a down of football at NU.

Staph infection according to the Daily on twitter

I thought that Fitz's practice on reporting injuries was to not report them for players who were unlikely to play. Perhaps more freshman are ready to play than in the past?

I'm getting kinda numb about all of the injuries, cloak and dagger, etc.; however, what are fans supposed to think of this? a) Typical Fitz hide stuff that he knew 4 months ago or b) a career ending injury aggravated, season ending injury suffered, and three other maladies during the first week of practice? I could see if one guy needed to see how it went after the first couple of practices but 5 guys?

If A) then why? All it does is kick the fans in the balls. If b) then wtf is going on???

IIRC, Short missed his senior year due to a shoulder issue. Anyone know if this is a developmental redshirt or an injury issue?

For them to make the decision at this point, before even one practice in pads, it's likely an injury issue.

I heard he hurt something lifting in the offseason.

It seems to me that we are very healthy at this point when compared to other teams and compared to our last two years. I think today was the first day in pads so hopefully all the boys can stay healthy.
Go cats!

Ah, ok. It does make sense that you can have medical issues that aren't classified as "injuries," I suppose! Either way, hope he's well on his way to being healthy.

Pat addressed the staph infection during the press conference, saying they looked real hard for the source given how serious it can be. Could not find the root cause, but said he has regained almost all his weight and is doing fine.

Lemke-Bell being out for a bit shouldn't be a surprise because pictures were posted of him a while ago showing him with his arm in a sling.

He wasn't swimming off the coast of Brazil was he?

The O line will miss Frazier the beginning of the year. He and Mogus are the anchors of the line. Frazier is a great player, could play at the next level. Hope he recovers and makes a come back.

Go Cats !

It's a good opportunity for Park to step up. I always thought he had great upside.

On the flip side, Kuhar not being on the early long-term injury report is a plus....We need him.
