SMU received the "death penalty" 40 years ago. After leaving the SWC, they have been searching for a return to a major conference but were rejected by the Big Eight, SEC, B1G, PAC in the past. The ACC extended a contingency offer , that precluded ACC network/conference funding. SMU's AD got on the phone and in less than a week got commitments of more than $100 million . ACC then "generously" accepted SMU.
SMU is a good academic school , rated above about 1/2 the B1G according to USN&WR but it is not an AAU member.(nor is Nebraska)
I was hoping the B1G would consider SMU, accessing the Texas market for both financial and recruiting benefits.
I believe SMU's admission standards for athletes is at the NCAA minimum level but it only has about 7,000 undergraduates, comparable to NU.
Ford Stadium's capacity is about the same size of the new Ryan Field, located on campus with The Boulevard pregame festivities featuring boots and sundresses
I only wish NU's BOT and Administration would support athletics like SMU's did
