So, who do you despise more…

Often, lately, it comes down to the coach for me. Unless it is long term hate (Mich, ILL), or if there is just one insufferable player, I root against the coach. Therefore, since Franklin is worse than Freeman, Go Irish. Other examples are Brian Kelly, flim-flam Fleck and Kiffin. Can't stand them

Tough to dislike Freeman.

This is really a shot or poisoned situation. If I just use my sports lizard brain, it’s Notre Dame. They’re distasteful and gross across a bunch of dimensions and have been an irritation for NU in recent years.

If I engage my brain I remember PSU’s fan base went apeshit when Joe Paterno was fired and they have a child rape cover up artist statue in campus.

So there’s all that.

Looking at the CFP and trying to decide who to route for has really been tough. The coach from Oregon seemed like a decent guy...would like to have seen ASU beat Texas.....Now??? I cant believe I am saying this but Ryan Day seems like a sympathetic(?) figure I could get behind.....ND too good for everybody, always...James Franklin? guessing he spends minimum 3 hours admiring himself in a mirror while he listens to tapes of past press conferences. Dont know much about Sarkasian but the state of Texas seems a little whacked and suffering from ND syndrome...come to think of it that last person of power I liked was my grand sons kindergarten teacher and even she made those kids keep the crayons neat in the box...was cute though....Must be something in here about competition, power and the climb to the top.

Notre Shame for sure. I hate them almost as much as I hate the Bucks. As a Catholic I hate that they try to claim an entire religious base. I hate their pompous nature.

Penn State, I have no hate for. I don’t think JoePa knew what was going on. He was from a different era where such behavior was incomprehensible, and when he realized what happened, it probably killed him. I also don’t think it’s fair to for us to get in our high horse about PSU and Sandusky when we are so ready to sweep the car washes under the rug in our own house. I’m not saying they are equivalent, but what happened at NU was a culture problem involving rituals that if not nearly as heinous, were still sick and twisted, while what happened at PSU was more isolated to the criminal actions of a sick and twisted individual pedo.

Not interested in rehashing the whole Penn State fiasco, but I feel you are trying to sweep an awful lot under that rug there.

After going to NU and seeing how ND and NU are constantly put in the category of academic programs and seeing the constant advantages over the years. My dislike goes back to Parsegian being pilfered, ND is far ahead.

The stuff that happened at PSU was 15 years ago. doubt there is a single person attached with the program in any way that was part of it back then,. As far as JoPa, I believe he got a raw deal. He ran a clean program for decades and when the issue came to his attention he did report it,. That the people in the administration did not do what they should have done was reprehensible. But JoPa go far more blame than he was due

I hope ND beats them by 30.

Hey now. We have stolen our fair share of ND players. Lausch, Kustok, and Roehl (DJ XONIC)
Not in quite a while other than Lausch and that was not from the FB program but the Base Ball program so hard to count that, Take a look at the guys going the other way and it is pretty one sided

I agree on all points excrpt for the Notre Dame hate.

Like many posters, I’m part Irish and a reformed Catholic. They are just a well reputed school trying to make it as an independent.

P$U is oblivious. How is Franklin still their head coach?

The media want ND to be in the finals; media do not want 2 B1G teams in the final. Look for all close calls, some not close calls, to go their way.
23-17, Insufferables.
I’d look for more suspect officiating in OSU-Texas. Since the final is on ESPN they may care more about getting Texas in and less so about the B1G channel backed PSU or NBC backed ND.

The Athletic has announced that ND is lovable now.

There are plenty of fans who are still firmly Never Notre Dame, but the closest you’ll get to America’s college football team right now is the one with the handsome coach and shiny helmets.

just made up my mind after listening to some ex domer (on the SCORE)pontificate about how great they all are....and hear Haugh and Mully genuflect and kiss his feet....and then go on about what good students they are and other schools cant do that....bla ,bla, bla....have there been any good movies about two villains ?

There are plenty of reasons for NU fans to dislike ND.

Franklin is still there (at PSU) because like it or not he has been reasonably successful

This game has me torn. I would normally root for the Big Ten team, but I dislike Franklin, and I like Freeman.

I stand with The Nittany Lions out side of Chicago everybody cheers for their favorite and whoever plays Notre Dame.

Northwestern in many respects is not that different from ND. Founded 10 years apart, in the Midwest, similar enrollments, private research institutions, both ladies of a lake. Except for the Catholic thing, but NU is firmly Methodist (just walk around Evanston), who just happened not to have a Vatican. At the turn of the 19th Century, NU clearly had the superior football team. Then something happened--Knute Rockne, the four horsemen, etc. for 13 years in the 1920's. This took hold on the American psyche, and led to a century of ND football pomposity (keeping in mind the Vatican). But NU still has a chance. Never forget, "It's all right, it's okay, you will work for us some day." If NU ever gets great at football again, we will own pomposity.

First round to Penn State - playing some serious old-fashioned football. All ground game (Allar trying to play himself out of the NFL tonight). Defense minding all the gaps and very quick to the ND backfield and the ball.

ND is getting pounded and are very lucky to only be behind a touchdown at half. Didn't think this year's squad would get out physicalled. The PSU TE is an absolute beast.

I don't like either team, but it looks like ND has too many injuries to stay in this one for the whole game.
