Question for the board mavens and insiders: Do any of you have insight into how this development ( ie the professionalization of P5 and P6 revenue sports —football and basketball ) is viewed by the people that decide policy and direction at Northwestern University, ie, the Board, the President, key alumni, etc. ?
Are these decision makers OK with hosting two professional sports teams where 18 year-olds might make more than associate professors ?
( Yes, yes— I know—this will be rare for now, but read the papers, this possibility is real going forward ) Are they willing to let CCC and Fitz join the arms race when necessary? ( N.B., I understand and agree that often kids who are good fits for NU will be attracted to NU for reasons beyond money, for future benefits, etc. But some kids who are good fits will simply not be able to pass up the income that may be available for reason of immediate family needs, etc.)
If this development has occasioned discussions among NU’s policy makers, who drives these discussions and who is the final arbiter of what gets tabled and decided?
Thanks
