St. Francis made the NCAA Tournament this season and still decided they can't keep up with the arms race. I wonder if this is going to become a trend with the lower conference teams.

Scholarships, and opportunities (and not just in football and basketball), are going away at smaller schools so that a smaller pool of players can be paid by car salesmen at the B1G and the SEC. And even then I'm not sure it will be sustainable. Is this really the tradeoff we want?

University president: “The geography of our conference is huge. Our students travel either to Chicago or to Boston or to points in between. That's a lot of time not spent on campus, developing friendships or in the classroom. This change allows our students to be present on campus and lets their friends attend more of their home and away games. This decision is about creating and maintaining community and allowing our student-athletes to thrive in the classroom and their chosen sport.”

Spoken with a primary interest in the student-athlete. And any school named after Saint Francis must find the NILPortal Era to run contrary to its values.

Yes, I’m sure this was not financially motivated at all. 🙏

Understandable in FB but less so in BB

Franciscan monks take a vow of poverty and desire a simple life in service to others. I have to believe the current emphasis of Div 1 sports on all things money had to be difficult for them in addition to the financial difficulties it created.

I was taught in grade school by Franciscan nuns. Sister Stanislaus had a mean ruler on the knuckles.
