Super proud today

NU didn't quite get it done against a superior Purdue team today, but wow, that game showed off Northwestern. National game on CBS. The crowd was so loud the announcers admitted they couldn't hear. The postgame show started off with commending the home crowd and talking about the win as a quality one for Purdue against a tournament team. Hard to believe this is NU basketball, even with the loss.

Whale of a game.

Too much Swanigan.

Not enough Law (shooting only). Thanks guys for a tremendous effort!
Smithee, I agree and am also very proud of my team. However, it was not too much Swanigan- it was too much of the kid who had 25 points, and I don't believe he missed a free throw.
That said, I believe we can beat anybody in the BIG. B-Mac was the best player on the floor. tonight, but he can't go it alone on offense

So many good things today. Such a good vibe.

And maybe most importantly, I think the fellas are back to their pre-mono level of play. They are not an easy out in the NCAA by a long shot.

How fabulous to KNOW there's at least another week of basketball after D.C.

Yes! How would you like to be Sanjay or Nate this season? They've gotta be jacked beyond jacked. This is pure bonus for them. I hope they enjoy the heck out of it and take full advantage. And rock it in the Tournament.

No Chores, Edwards ate like a King because we had to try to keep Swanigan from consuming everything.
Smithee, good point. Who was guarding Edwards? I know Sanjay dropped down low a lot to double Swanigan and Haas.

20-10-0-1 on the year.

(added column for moral victories)
I'm worried about these close moral victories. A lot of IU fans are telling me that Collins could be headed to IU next year. It sounds like Fred Glass has already contacted Collins. We could be crying Purple in a few weeks so let's give this a good ride!!!

Probably the real question should be, not if, but how many times will the replay of "The Pass" + "The Catch" = "The Miracle" play from Wednesday be shown before and during today's game?

Feel free to introduce yourself. We welcome dual fans who share allegiances to other schools. Not that you are necessarily an IU fan yourself, but sounds like you have closer contacts to the program there than do most of us.

And during the early Crean years, I heard an IU fan tell me they wanted to get Carmody. Fwiw

They are building hime a 110,000,000 arena. The last two games have shown the potential for crowd support. Why would he leave?

I started a thread on these rumors. Couldn't find anything on CC to IU front, but there is relevant information.

One possible reason for CC to take the IU job *IF* (HUGE IF) it actually became available to him might be money. Crean's salary is supposedly over $3MM and could go higher with performance bonuses. CCs is supposedly making about $1.4MM at NU. So, IF they were to offer him a salary comparable to what TC currently makes it could be a huge pay raise.

OTOH, if a program as storied as that (B1G champ just a year ago) did have an opening there won't be a shortage of candidates. I would doubt they would take a chance on a coach as young as CC who is still relatively unproven.

I agree. Swanigan will always get his points but Edwards killed us. I really don't know who was actually guarding him or more correctly not guarding him

NU got a great performance from McIntosh but nothing else from the perimeter

The game was a great tune up for us for the tournaments. We look like we are at full strength. Collins used everyone yesterday. Benson, Brown, Tap and Ash are giving the regulars a blow. Mac, Sanjay, and Pardon had a great game. Lindsay, Law and Skelly did not have good games, but should be ready for prime time.

The big difference to me is that we are now able to go 8-10 deep which should help us in a multi-day tournament. The lost time by Pardon helped Benson and Skelly and the lost time by Lindsey helped Tap and Brown receive valuable playing time. Ash must be showing something in practice because he has been coming off the bench before Brown. I feel better about our team following the three close games to end the season than I did in the three previous weeks. I look for us to play at least two games in D.C., and hopefully more.

Go Cats !

Yep. Caleb was great down low. Vince Edwards played the best game I've seen him play in his career. Made shots and was also very strong down low. Good coaching by Painter to send dive cuts off the last guy we were rotating off of. Our backside rotations overall were more jumbled than normal / than they should be, but that was in part due to the scheming by Purdue's coaches which were ready for it and had counters planned. And Swanigan passed so well that he drove us out of the double teams.

We played a very good game in the first half, thought outplayed them a bit at the margin but ended up with tie score. We played decently in the second half, but I thought got a bit stagnant on offense. Not quite enough movement, too much of the BMac dribbling at top while everyone watches and we don't start any action until <10 left on shot clock. To be clear I have no problem with BMac controlling the ball and tempo and leading the play, but IMO we are better off if we try to run off ball action or execute some on ball motion earlier in the clock (eg the 3 man weave thing), then default to the BMac high screen roll stuff if that doesn't open anything up.

But all in all, agree came away from that game proud. We played well, and matched up against a very good team that gave us their best shot. It was a high level of basketball on both sides, this is a badly overused phrase, but today felt like a "postseason" level of intensity and quality from both teams. We were just a couple big plays away from getting the W, they were a tad bit better than us. Learn from it and let's win the next one of these Cats!
