Read the article. Surprised we are jumping to conclusions based on one game against Washington.
Here are a few things I'd question...
"Clayton proved that he was Northwestern’s best ballhandler." Did he, really? Against Washington?
Isn't the bigger question - why was Clayton redshirted when it was obvious to everyone that the team had an issue at point guard?
And the article implicitly praises Coach Collins for Clayton's performance running the offense, without mentioning the horrific defense we played when Clayton was on the court. Washington is a bad offensive team and they put 57 points on NU when Clayton played his 26 minutes, not counting the 4 technical foul free throws. Thats about an 87.5 point pace. Clayton needs to improve defensively in a big hurry.
Regarding Mullins - his dramatic improvement began immediately upon Barnhizer's disappearance from the lineup. The vast majority of his minutes had been played at the 2 guard position and he struggled. Now he's more of a 3 / wing and he is flourishing.
You wrote "sources tell WildcatReport that he was in the coaching staff’s doghouse" - I find that very interesting because it may have been the coaches trying to fit a square peg in a round hole more than anything else.
As for the freshmen - well they're obviously talented. Collins keeps telling the tv guys how talented they are. If the goal is to erode they're confidence, its working.
