To quote the author ... sigh

Did I miss something? Ayo received a Kansas offer - he hasn't committed to anyone. Is the 'miss' that is creating all this angst Ryan, who chose Stanford, or Mark Smith and Ryan?

Go back and watch Law and even Lindsey as Frosh, or Lindsey as a sophomore. I think Falzon as a frosh compares quite favorably to how these two performed.

Yeah, for every guy who gets better, there's a Winston Blake who regresses. It happens.

I still see the 17/18 Cats as being last year's team minus a great defender / glue guy and a three point specialist role player but plus a third year four star "transfer" (Falzon), a second year four star "transfer" (Rap), and a frosh four star wing that can attack the basket.

I don't know how you can speculate at all about a first-year player. Even some of Kentucky's one-and-dones don't measure up and they're the cream of the crop. If we get anything from Gaines similar to what we got from Brown last year, it's a great thing and I'm not counting on anything.

As good as the team is, an injury to McIntosh or Law dooms us. We survived Lindsey's absence last year (barely) but Bryant and Vic are simply special and the in-house replacements haven't wowed anyone. Once a Law skeptic, I've been won over by him and how lucky are we that he probably has two more seasons with us!

Haven't we lost out on about 4 guards that we've offered? There's "angst" because we're not replacing Fullen and Watts or Newman and Lepore for 2018-19. Not to denigrate those guys but McIntosh and Lindsey are unbelievable. God, the way Lindsey goes at Iowa really shows some determination to rub it in their faces. He's a special guy. And McIntosh, he's the heart and soul of the squad.

Replacing those guys after this coming season will require great talent, and you get uneasy every time a top choice says 'no.'

I'm all for people not getting drunk on the Kool-Aid, but come on. What's the benefit of suggesting Falzon will take a step backward this year, other than denigrating a college athlete and trolling other people? Do you have any evidence, or was Vassar that persuasive in person?

Falzon had a serious injury that kept him out for essentially the whole season. But you're insinuating that I'm a "bad fan" and you're accusing me of "denigrating" him for wondering if he can be as good as he could have been without injury or whether or not he will live up to the hype?

That's just called life. Since when is it "wrong" to discuss, predict, or analyze a player's career?

This is a FAR cry from the way some of you were brutally slamming Sobo in his last two years or the way you crushed Vassar. What a JOKE, Journcat.

There are actually talented replacements on the roster for Lindsey (Gaines) and McIntosh (Brown). What we are looking for is will Collins land elite prospects ie final 4 type talent in the 2018 class. Given the pluses to the program right now and the offers, the hope is definitely there. Remember, any comment on Ayo is a blind assumption of followers of recruiting that based on reading between the lines he was looking for a big time offer and got one. For all we know he's a silent commit to NU and only raking in big time offers to pump up his ranking the overall class ranking ;-)

Really, of the 12 guards NU has reportedly offered (4 point guards and 8 shooting guards), only one has committed. The talk is that Carmody and Finke (both SGs) will head elsewhere. Since the original offers went out to 2018 prospects, NU has added offers at SG to Saddiq Bey and Miller Kopp. These two would be great gets for Collins and NU and Kopp has an official visit on tap.

Remember, no one here has any inside knowledge, I look at Verbal Commits and follow twitter and that's it.

Guess it's not wrong to discuss about a players past performance and accomlishments but injury possibilities probably not appropriate. Better players were recruited over Sobo and you mean Mr. Vassar, who attended 4 or 5 high school, got a 4 year basketball schlorship to NU and played one year and then requested the OK to transfer but couldn't find a program that wanted him and then complained because he had to actually do something for his free ride. Yes, that guy, who I would say got off quite easy for being a quitter.

It's funny that you say this in one post and question whether NU basketball could go on without Vic Law in another.

You're right about that last point. The stuff posted about Sobo, Olah, Kale was pretty bad. Anyone that Collins' predecessor recruited had to be poison, according to some. I wanted to fix Kale's shot, I admit. But then I also wanted to fix Shurna's shot. I want to feel bad for Sobo but then realize he is going to do fabulously well professionally so the bball stuff is no big deal. He should have played more his senior year.

Maybe you're getting a bad read on here Yesterday. Maybe you're just an Eeyore-type guy. You are not alone in knocking Falzon. Some have posted that he can't rebound which is complete horse shit. Or that he can't defend 4's, more manure. Falzon is a stud and a cold-blooded assassin. Will graduate as the best 3 point shooter in NU history. Someone upthread commented that his frosh season compares favorably to those of Lindsey and Law. Better in some ways.

He'd have to best Craig Moore, who hit 320 3's in his career. Others on the list are Juice (276), Shurna (274) and Crawford (232).

Moore hit 54 his Freshman year so Aaron is 9 ahead of him after each played 1 season. Sean Wink (86) and Todd Leslie (65) are the only true Freshmen in NU history to hit more 3's their Freshman year. Pretty impressive for Aaron.

Shooting, freshman year:
Falzon: .383 FG, .354 3PT, .717 FT
Lindsey: .405 FG, .354 3PT, .647 FT
Law: .387 FG, .355 3PT, .766 FT

Very similar. Almost identical from long range. Shurna, who I would hold up as the best 3 point shooter, had similar numbers from distance as a freshman (.347) , though he shot much better from the floor. So we'll see.

Falzon showed a lot of flashes in his freshman year. The strength difference seemed to me to hold back his game. I fully believe 2 off-seasons should solve that and and at the very least he'll be a solid starter. He's going to be a very good scorer for us.

Should Dr. Phillips expect your donation soon? Or are you still going to dispute the parking pass policy?

Oh, we weren't talking about the parking passes anymore? Okay, now you know how it feels when you never bring anything new into any conversation.

What I do with my money is none of your business, so STFU. I'm discussing with others what possibilities exist for next seasons team, while you continue to harp on the careers of past NU players and the "failures" of the current coaching staff

Asking others "Should Dr. Phillips expect your donation soon?" could very well get you confused with another poster who left this board a short while before you joined.
