The decision to allow players transfer at will without having to sit out a season will make NU football and to a lesser extent basketball mediocre to bad. I may sound like a doomsdayer but I just don’t see NU sustaining success as once we develop them most will look for greener pastures ( I.e. Brandon Joseph). The state rules in terms of reimbursing athletes for the NIL are very variable from state to state and more restrictive in Illinois than other states(do they have any rules in Mississippi or Alabama..LOL!!) and puts NU at a big disadvantage. In addition, the lack of a great game day atmosphere further handicaps us. We will get some recruits who value education but a lot of these players we lose out to Stanford. These rule changes have made college athletes like professional athletes but the difference is that the professional teams have control over the athlete once they sign and college sports does not. All of these rules will make the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
