Except, no program appears to want him.I think he say 'If you won't let me play, at least I can get a free top shelf education on your dime and make my grandma proud.'
Perhaps, unlike many of our bball players content to a life playing ball overseas, Vassar recognizes the limit to his bball potential vs the ceiling availed through a NU degree. Maybe he is one smart cookie. Hope he makes the most of it, graduates with honors and realizes a tremendous career.
Funny thing - assume he's keeping in shape, playing pick up, running in the right circles...he could graduate and receive another 1 year graduate schollie somewhere and get his masters for free too.
Ivy League maybe?I'm sure there are programs who would gladly take him based on his basketball skills. Just none that appear to meet his desires. He has high standards.
He has high standards.
Why would Vassar think of leaving now? He didn't want to work and not play while sitting behind McIntosh, and now he doesn't have to and still gets free school and a stipend. If you got free books, tuition, and money monthly to party and be a student with no worries wouldn't you?
If he wanted to "ball out" he would already be gone...
Except, no program appears to want him.
Or he's not near as good as what he thinks he is.
Good enough for a four year ride at NU.
Would think that those would be some un-comfortable moments at the training table.Even better for him to keep his schollie here. As long and NU doesn't want him to do anything bball related, he is entitled to all the benefits of thee schollie. I wonder if he still gets preferential scheduling too. And training table. Everything except the letter jacket, I would guess.
But I would not be surprised to see him get a 5th year run at a small program after he graduates. Time will tell.

This is one bizarre discussion. The guy is gaming the system, getting a free education for doing nothing, and everybody is cheering here. He should never set foot close to a training table, IMO! And what school is going to offer a scholarship to a player who hardly played his freshman year, showed little that year, and never showed any interest in playing (transferring) for 3 years afterward? Mississippi Valley State? I doubt it even there. And who would go to MVSU after graduating from NU? Ivy League schools? Come on! Nitrogen narcosis, Bob?

How is he gaming the system? Coach offers him a scholarship, he accepts. Coach tells him he isn't good enough to play, so he uses the scholarship the coach blew on him to get a great education. Collins blew it. Deal with it.
Funny thing - I recall folks telling me I was high when I said CCC screwed this whole scenario up and that Vassar would be here for four years on a bball schollie. Guess we can talk in a few years. Seems that weirder has happened.
Glades, you were schollie, right? Football had its own training table except Sundays. Tell me how many non athletes you saw there? I remember a couple football guys would give there IDs to frat bros on Sundays for a nice meal in the rec center. You saying Vassar is not enjoying training table? Ha
Because he's taking money for nothing. I could never do that and live with myself.
I never saw non-athletes at training table. I'm saying he should never set foot near a training table because he's not practicing. IMO, he should have transferred out last summer. NU should never hand out 4-year rides, either.
Athletes should never sign over all their rights at the risk of injury for a few crappy thousand. But that's NCAA, where athletes are students and students attend four years by design. Don't hate the player, hate the game. This isn't your ole skool Glades dark ages NU, this team draws big revenue.
As an equal-opportunity hater, I'll hate whoever I want to. Today, it's that little cartoon general for General Insurance. Flo is off the hook this week.
Come to the general and save some time!
If CCC was smarter, more humble, he would have brought Vasser back on at least as practice player. CCC could have secured the schollie last spring administratively. He didn't. No way Vassar brings less than hall to the table. CCC has made his decision and is stubbornly sticking to it, Vassar equally sticking to his guns. Seems more than fair. Got a problem, call his bluff, force him back on the squad and dismiss for cause if he gives any trouble. Otherwise, enjoy the free ride he has been given.

The mandatory 4-year rides were implemented because many programs were screwing players out of scholarships.
Oh now CC needs to be "more humble"? What a crock. You are judging him on what, zero facts? Do you have any insight to this situation, or is your internet IQ making you smarter than Coach Collins in a situation about which you, or anyone else on this board apparently, have any hard facts. I'm sure there are 2 sides to the story but I'm not ready to say Coach Collins is being stubborn unless I have some facts or at least some 2nd hand news.

Something doesn't make sense here. Non revenue sports. Especially women's sports could be seriously gamed. Imagine if an entire recruiting class of 4/5 players used sports to get into and a free ride to northwestern. Then lose the love of playing. You'd destroy the team/program for 3-4 years.

He's not wanted. Just go ask any current player that spent a year with him.
As far as I understand it, the 4-year scholarship offers are not "unconditional". You can't just decide to stop playing of your own volition and keep your scholarship. You need to be in good standing with the athletic department and the school. Someone who up and quits is easily classified as not in good standing with the athletic department. There's no "gaming" the system.
Like it or not, no 5th year transfer next year. Blame who you want. My opinion lays it at CCCs feet.
That's a shocker!
Ok by me. Just don't bemoan the scholarship. None of us want taxes, but we pay them.
Unless you don't work. Then you don't have to worry about paying taxes.
There's a lot to what happened. I blame Collins for recruiting a kid that went to four different high schools. Huge red flags there and I bet Collins doesn't make that mistake again. That being said, there's a reason why he's no longer a part of the program and why many programs view him as untouchable.
What do you think about the BC firing? Just kidding but hopefully this point about your ridiculously over the top never ending single sided posting helps you understand the true definition of too much. Of all those that protest my posts, you are the least qualified or most hypocritical. You really miss Doc, don't you?
