With Taj Fitz looking to be in the home stretch to completion what is the time frame
for Trienens overhaul? Would this project begin in Sept. with a 1 year completion
schedule? Thanks in advance to those with knowledge.

The project is not up on the NU facilities website and I have not seen any plans on the Evanston planning commission website.

Another year at Blomquist? Or can they just practice at WR2?

McGaw Hall 3? Wait, it's still McGaw Hall, right?

I was thinking about the practice situation recently. I assume they'll use the arena as much as possible, but it's shared among the two basketball teams, volleyball, and wrestling. I assume they'll keep using Blomquist until Trienens is ready.

I am not sure why the redo would need to go to Evanston Plan commission. If you are redoing the interior, I would think you go get a regular building permit. Not like Welsh Ryan. I don’t think there is an expansion to the footprint....

You might be correct about the city by every project goes up on facilities management that is for the university. An example of a project on facilities is the rebuild of FIJI going on now.

I would assume Patton is now available ?????

Actually your post got me thinking... is it possible to gut Patton and renovate it on the inside for the basketball team? The location is excellent as an on-campus practice facility and the historical significance as the site of the first NCAA championship could be preserved.

Your idea may well have merit but my understanding is that the Patton facility in which NCAA finals were held is not the current one. Wasn't the tourney played roughly where Tech building is now?

I remember reading the same thing, though it's hard to believe Patten isn't hundreds of years old.

Yes. Although the statues beside the front doors are from the original gym.

I recall the original plan was to do that. But why in the world would they do this having spent the money to redo Blomquist for the BB teams to practice in? At any rate, I doubt the Trienens redo will take a significant amount of time given that they are completely reusing the structural shell, not gutting it like they did WRA, and tearing down and completely rebuilding WRA is just an 18 month project.

the new welsh-ryan will open in november
the new practice facility will begin construction as soon as football moves to the lake front
the teams will practice at new arena when possible but will still use patten (wbb) and blomquist (mbb/vb) until practice facility is completed. remember welsh-ryan is used for volleyball, wrestling, and both basketball programs so there will be conflicts on certain days.
i have heard tentative dates for practice facility opening is april of 2019
