Mr All Turk: Watkins
I gave this award to watkins because when Doc adjusted against those quick outside screens by placing watkins right up to the los, watkins really shut it down. Further, cant help but notice him and anderson on punt team. That duke punt returner kept getting drilled, which ended up making him hear footsteps and drop the pill.
Of course Awalk could have easily got mr all turk as well as lorwy or Godwin but i wantto recognize how intense watkins play was.

All turk awards: park long jackson mitchell lowry walker godwin van hoose harris kuhar lancaster robbins gibson.

Db grade: A
nowhere to pass. Hard hitting. Starters plus kyle and watkins were great.

Lb: grad A
Awalk was phenomenal on run and pass. Lost track of tackles. Only had one bad read which was a big run. Prater looked good but got sealed off a few times. Smith played tough and loved his open field tacle out on the wing. Quero played but didnt notice much.

Dl: grade A
Lowry was a beast. Everyone else good with a special shout out to thompson who was very interesting.

Dc:grade A
The rotation allowed us to play fresh all game. I liked his adjustments and calls.

Ol:: Grade B-
Some may think this is a high score but i thought they did better. Being one dimensional has really loaded things up against them.i thought park had a good game and vitale as a blocker. Otherwise we wore down a gassed duke d which didnt seem to have much of a defensive rotation.

Wr: grade C-
Very poor game. Missed blocks except for one nice block by carr. Nagles play is simply unacceptable.

QB: D+
I know he is a freshman but he can do better. Really poor play. Honestly, he needs to be tougher. Plays like a suburban boy even though he is a big kid. He stops when he runs like he doesnt want to get hit. Cmon maaaannn. Run the damn ball if your number is called. Great arm but lacks confidence. I hope he is learning. Almost tossed his 3rd int with a wide open shuler. Kid plays like a deer in headlights. Not being mean just expressing what i see.

Rb: grade A
jackson a long.

Oc:McCall : grade A
i thought he really had a helluva game plan and play calling. Longs td was sweet when everyone just knew thorson was going to run it. Vitales pulling blocking stumped duke as well. Although it appeared to me that little vitale sprung Long.

Special teams: grade A
our gunners were unreal. Mitchell was money.

Head coach : grade A
overcoming a very inexperienced QB and the sun was awesome. Our depth against dukes lack of depth actually allowed us to use the hot sun and rotation to wear down duke. Duke is good but fitz outcoached duke. Except cutliffe snuck in a hurry up once to flag us for a first down.

Great game being with alot of cat fans, several of which i met for the first time. Go cats!

WR Wrong! D-

Prater overran a few tackles in the first half, and Smith seemed quiet in the first half before flashing a bit in the second half, but AWalk just seems to do more every week. What a player he is turning out to be!

You might give an All Turk honorable mention to Cash on Duke.

I like McCall, I really do but he doesn't get an A for this game based on how poorly developed the Oline is and that a RS Freshman, who is not "lights out", is the best QB on the roster. God forbid that Thorson gets hurt if he is our best QB available. I don't blame Thorson but we must not be good at QB an that falls squarely on McCall every game.

I thought an argument could have been made for Long for player of the game. The block on Vault's return, the fumbled punt recovery, the long touchdown run and some great punt coverage.

Long had an unbelievable game. On the Vault return he destroyed the last Duke player who had any shot at Vault by knocking him sideways onto his ass like a 7 pin.

I wondered who made that block. A complete decleater!

Actually, the "good news" is NU won't see much of a drop off whoever is at QB. All along, Pat said it was close between the three. I prefer to believe Zack was close to CT, and if indeed Zack has to play he can't be any worse as a passer than CT has. Clayton was brutal yesterday.

Yeah, that block was something special. Look at the replay. The kid he knocked to the ground actually rolled completely around TWICE.

I am lousy at looking away from the ball. So pls comment on this. Did they throw at NVH only once? Seems like he always has a quiet game because they don't bother to go over there. Conversely, he was out for a couple of plays and they went 3 times at Watkins (and he did well over there).

They didn't throw at Harris either. The coverage forced the underneath throws and AWalk went wild!

Two questions:
Why is Nagle's play unacceptable---couldn't see game?
Of the 24,000 announced attendance, how many do you estimate were NU fans?

Because Thorson hit him on the numbers with a throw up the seam that he flat dropped anticipating a hit.

Not good-----but he is a freshman as well.
He isnt playing because he is a freshman, he put upper classmen on the bench but hasnt brought it on saturdays. I hope he is worth it and i think he is but he appears uncomfortable now. Thats how freshmen are but freshmen dont get mulligans when the game is on the line.

Cash certainly appears to be great in run support, but I am not sure that gets you drafted on day 1. There is no shortage of run- stuffing safeties, but first day pics usually go to guys with outstanding over skills and good run support. With the emphasis on passing, more safeties get drafted earlier (way back when, only Ronnie Lott types were first rounders), so maybe Cash will cash in.

In fact, only 1 safety was drafted in the first round in 2015. Safety isn't a position that goes early.

Not true. Safeties are incredibly important in today's pro game. The safeties in last year's draft just were not elite. God knows the Bears need 1-2 more in next years draft. Cash will play on Sundays but I doubt he goes very early.

Don't know about that. Zack was worse against Illinois last year, imo. And Duke's D was certainly better than the Illini's

The grades are based on the actual playing time. Not sure who is responsible for lack of player development but there are several problems that have not been addressed in the off season that are showing up once again. As far as Thorson, separate from development, imo, he can give us better right now with what he knows.

A couple of points toad. Dan Vitale A+ . he blocking was superb. But we need to get the ball to him more often.

Who ever is in charge of conditioning A++ for a team from the north to have no problems in the heat at Durham was outstanding.

Depth trumped conditioning. Duke played the same guys on defense and got bigtime gassed. Those 2 yard runs we had in the first half became 4+ yard runs. They were so gassed on the duke dl that we could have scored again if we so chose. Our dl remained fresh. Even though we only could dress 55 or so to travel, we played 9 DL.

Travel squads are 70 players. According to Fitzgerald, 67 of the 70 played. Only ZO and MA and the back-up kicker didn't play.

Turk, I thought awalk was a good player but I really thought you had lost your mind when you said he was going to be a national player of the year candidate and break all of the wildcat records. Why were you so high on him, because I certainly didn't see this high ceiling last year?

Did you coin the nickname awalk?

I also thought you were nuts when you said that we would be 8-4 this year but it appears that prediction was way off. I figured we could reach 7 wins, knowing we were going to be breaking in a redshirt freshman. What I didn't know was that our defense was going to pull us through the tough Stanford and Duke games. Our defense has been nothing short of dominant.

When I watched the tape of the last few games of 2014, it became very apparent that he was not only special but one of those "Once in 20 years' type of guys. His read and react is ahead of its time. I've seen very few LB"s over the years in college football that have what Awalk has. In fact, that's why I said in the pre season show that his freshman year could only be compared to the play of a freshman Chris Spielman. In saying that, I assessed him as a National hype player, which the rest of College football is only know figuring out. As far as wildcat records, I'm sure he will rewrite them, but I only mentioned one, the all time TFL record. He is on pace to break Casey Dailey's 1996 single season record of 26 TFL's, and without a doubt he will break the all time record, possibly even if he leaves early. The nickname? Not sure if it's original. Just because it only became accustomed to being used on this board after I started calling him Awalk doesn't mean it was original. I shortened it because his first name had 3 syllables and it is a lot easier to spell to just say Awalk. Nothing against his first name, I like it and wanted to name my first son Anthony, but his mother didn't like the name so we stuck it in the middle.
