UMass vs Northwestern

Since it's a slow time of the year...

With the current 12-team structure of the College Football Playoff, is it easier to make the CFP if you're UMass or if you're Northwestern?

With Northwestern, you have better resources and play in a higher profile league, but you have to go through the gauntlet of the Big Ten and end as one of the top 3 or 4 teams in the league.

With UMass, you are now in the MAC. So you have to win the MAC and then be the 5th best conference champion. That means having a better season than the American champ (i.e. Memphis or Tulane) or the new PAC-12 (i.e. Boise State or Oregon State) or the new Mountain West (i.e. UNLV) or the Sunbelt (i.e. App State or James Madison). Seems like it may be easier to be an undefeated MAC team and watch the other G5 teams beat each other up.
