Wow did JP and CC ever make the right call on this turkey. Watched a few minutes of NIU-UCSB on CBS SportsNet this afternoon and you could count the tiny number of fans in attendance with your hands and toes. Basically, it was like playing a game in a TV studio. I'd be surprised if this event made it to year two.

I think that your remark, meant in jest, is actually a cool idea. Record the games on a green screen soundstage with no one in attendance but the teams and their cheerleaders and pipe in all kinds of music and show all sorts of psychodelic backgrounds. Use unique camera angles and provide unprecedented access to the team huddles and locker rooms. Make it totally unlike anything else on TV.

I don't think any of the teams brought cheerleaders either so you might have to pipe in some canned crowd noise!

I think the Vegas 16 could have been a good third tier tourney if the Power 5 schools had cooperated. I really like the idea of a tourney all in one place at one time. I also think NU could have benefitted from a couple more weeks of practice and another game or two. But Collins thought otherwise and he has the best read on the team.

The major conferences must have thought entering a for-profit tournament in the kingdom of glitz would compromise their academic missions. Admirable.

Now that statement ranks as the "joke of the year". So far.
