Northwestern is reportedly set to host a visit from potential transfer Cooper Schwieger, a sophomore forward from Valparaiso, as the Wildcats look to fill their frontcourt with experienced players.

Here's a more detailed look at the situation:

  • Transfer Target:
Northwestern is actively seeking to add players through the transfer portal to bolster their roster, especially in the frontcourt.
  • Schwieger's Profile:
Cooper Schwieger, a 6-foot-10, 230-pound sophomore forward from Valparaiso, is a potential transfer target.
  • Valparaiso Stats:
Schwieger led Valparaiso with 15.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game in the 2024-25 season.
  • All-Conference Performance:
He was named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference Second Team this past season.
  • Rankings:
According to 247 Sports, Schwieger is ranked the No. 35 overall player in the transfer portal and No. 10 power forward.
  • Northwestern's Situation:
Northwestern is looking for replacements for graduating stars and is actively recruiting in the transfer portal.
  • Other Potential Transfer:
Youngstown State sophomore Gabe Dynes is also planning to visit Northwestern on Monday.

I think the encouraging thing about all this, seeing that we know of at least 4 players who "heard from Northwestern", and 2 of them, seeing that they are visiting, are definitely considering us, is that we seem to have a decent NIL chest.

I never expected and don't expect us to be super competitive with NIL. We are not that when it comes to top 50 HS recruits anyway. But being in the mix for a second/third tier of transfers is encouraging. It allows for building a competitive team.

Less so, but still plenty of roulette when it comes to actually know how transfers will perform after transferring. See Indiana, Rice and Carlyle were very highly touted transfers who were terrible. See Jalen Leach, not nearly as highly touted but kept improving and, by the time he got hurt, looked like a legit B1G starter.

Tonnje is the success story that will fuel the expectations of many a program. Something like the 246th best transfer according to one service. We would've all been thrilled if we got Blackmon last year and probably disappointed if we got Tonnje, and we see how that turned out.

If we can keep getting Leaches and Langborgs, I'm good, but there are lottery picks that hit that are out there.

Exactly. That's my point, we might not have enough $$$ to go after Indiana's Ballo, but we seem to have it to go after multiple Leaches and Langborgs. That's, in my book, a relief as it relates to our competitiveness in this new world.

Damn Tonje was fantastic. Amazing he slipped a little under the radar in the transfer world.

We never were getting top 50 guys when there was no NIL. Top 100 maybe but top 50? So hard to see a reason to try to compete for them. And if we get to that point when we are in the mix, then they can likely find the money

Tonje was injured all last year at Missouri. Before that at a smaller school his only year in double figures was 14 ppg. Even Wisconsin had to be shocked with how good he was this year.

I saw Valpo play Illinois State this year in person. Cooper had 14 and 7 in a loss. He has some skill. His teammate, who also averaged 15+, was All Wright, a freshman guard who is also in the portal. His brother is Always Wright who plays at Rhode Island. Not making this up. lol

Current portal rankings don’t mean a lot yet since there are at least another thousand players yet to enter.

I think a lot of us have a brother who is Always Wright. My brother has one.

Oh, man.... I'm trying to be a kinder, gentler human, but the pattern of patronization continues. The consistency is both admirable and comical.

Yep, good ole Combes and his friend Vassar are really insufferable.

That’s ridiculous. He was complimentary and gave some insight from a game he watched.

They have been pretty tame recently. Sure you are not over reacting?

He was solid at Colorado State but a role player to David Roddy and Isiah Stevens.
