Walker retained by UoI; reported benefits to their recruiting

Are there NU fans on Illini boards shitting on YOUR program lately? I can understand taking jabs at the Cats on your own site, but coming here to do it? Are you expecting us to "come to our senses" based on your highly enlightening posts? Don't get it.

On paper, the UoI recruiting class looks pretty good. No arguments here. I'd be worried about JT academically qualifying, and then how long he'll stay if he's as good as you think he is. One and done?

I'd rather have NU's current roster than UoI's. More experience, better leadership on the team, more heart.
Anything less than "Underwood will take Illinois to 10 final fours and a 25-0 record against NU" is apparently an insult they can't let stand. There sure does seem to be an uptick of trolls for a fanbase that has nothing to worry about from NU...

Not worried. Love where our B-ball program sits. Great hire with Underwood. Great class coming in and will be added to. NU already hoping for a good 2018 class... Precious. I'd be more worried about sustaining your best stretch ever. New territory. Collins is good and gives you a chance until K retires. Good rivalry for now. Also, Lovie teams will only get better. Talk all the nonsense you want but you know how this will end. I also find it hard to believe with all these so called rabid fans and great FB coach that sellouts are nonexistent at your great stadium. Sorry... Couldn't resist.

Makes me think of the great line ... "You can't fix stupid." Doesn't even know that every school in the Country is deep into their 2018 hoops recruiting, and will have much if not all of it in the bag in the next 6 months. Doesn't even know that Lovie's best chance of making a difference on the recruiting trail has come and gone. Classic example of the fact that people believe what they want to believe and cling to what they need to believe.

Oh we can be petty too:

That new shield logo looks like it was done in word clipart.
Central IL is a shithole.
Chicago has never embraced iLL.
With your student body size and nothing to do in central IL your attendance is pathetic.
You hired Tim Beckman.

Why are you wasting your time posting on a NU , when you should cheering on that 'great hire", no one in Illinois has ever heard of or urging Lovie to stay another year before he jumps ship, realizing that Illinois football is and will continue b mediocre and that Champaign is a crap place to live.

Update... Tilmon staying with Illinois and Smith could be announcing soon. Stay tuned. This mediocre Illinois program just might get a little better.

For a very brief period of time. The 2017 class will not be together for long. Then it's a SF Austin guy recruiting against Martin to the west, Collins to the north, Miller to the east and Pitino and Cal to the south. Since the Illini have never recruited well outside their own region, I say good luck with that.

GOUNUII
You obviously have little connection to reality.
1.) The class has been meet with except Williams, so we're keeping it.
2.) What recruit will NU be taking from anyone?
3.) You guys think that if Collins makes you successful that he'll actually stay?
4.) You do realize that Underwood was largely influential in recruiting the team that Frank Martin is coaching, and that they play the same system?

To be fair, this is the only place I've ever seen an NU fan.

I wanted to check it out because someone claimed you guys thought you lead in the Mark Smith recruitment, but I have not seen that sentiment on here yet.

Well let's see... 2018 class pretty well identified for Illini. NU is still dreaming of players going elsewhere but can say you were close. But enough of this. It was like putting a fake mouse in front of a dump cat and watching it lunge and miss repeatedly. You have to admit I did get your group to extend a post stream which is a rarity here. I'm done and going back to my forums where there is actual traffic. Good day!

I agree, not too many NU fans in Greenup. I hear Casey's has great taco pizza.

Good go back to your Scout forum. You guys are at what has probably been a low point of athletics the last 30 years. Yet the whining Illini still troll. I have lived in the flagship state my entire life, my favorite team became the Cats not because I am an alum ( nope not me), but because of the overabundance of arrogance from Rantoul grads that has existed forever. Second favorite team is whoever plays the whining Illini. Just like a bunch of people up here north of Rantoul.

Lovie is a nice man, and if he does REALLY well he'll get you to the middle of the B1G West. We'll see If Underwood is what you are cracking him up to be. Lord knows you spend enough of us residents taxes to recruit these names . Your own boards that are now insisting he is the second coming, never heard of him until he is hired. Illini basketball has never recovered from Self telling you that Kansas is a much better job. The fact we are even having this discussion shows how far you have plummeted and how insecure your fan base ( if you can call it that for a large state school) is.

Nice Jay, very original for your second post in 9 years. Were you born in 1950?

You don't understand how rivals works do you? Two posts on this site.

Had to look up Greenup. Funny!

I'd return the joke, but I'm unaware of where the rock that your fanbase hides under resides.

Northwestern calling someone the low point in athletics? Your single tourney appearance ever is really getting to your heads.

Living in the past again, eh, Illini? You have a terrible campus, a broke school, and all you can do is rest on your laurels. You have a coach in his 50s who is always looking for his next job.

I would take our situation over yours any day.

11th most profitable basketball program in the country. You may be 11th in the Big Ten. We have been to more national championships than you have tournaments. We have brand new basketball facilities. You'll always be an afterthought compared to Illinois. Enjoy. I think I'll forget this forum exists by tonight, so enjoy your off-season.

Your insecurity is adorable. Can't wait to see you back next week.

The fact you are trolling here means you are threatened, like I said, taco pizza tonight. You don't see Michigan fans trolling here during football season. But you would not understand that so keep it up. It is a compliment to NU.

Is there anything more Illini than a fan of a program where the coach was recently fired pronouncing, "I love where our program sits."

I love where your program sits also. Of all the names put there, is there anyone I. as the in-state rival, would rather the Illini have than Underwood? No way! I'll take the one-year guy who won with players he didn't recruit EVERY TIME.

Sounds like your attention span, gramps! Now let's wait for that resurgent football program that has managed to have a winning record 5 of the last 22 years. Believe it or not, you had to win a toilet bowl in 2 of those 5 years to exceed 500! On to your sixth straight losing season. Come back when you are good in something, it would be much more interesting.

Illinois has the best recruiting class in the BT and some good returning players. One of those two 6th year players, Thorne, hardly played. Abrams was not the same as he was before his two major injuries. Hill is the major loss, but Tilmon, Frazier, Pickett, Damonte Williams and probably Mark Smith are a nice start. Plus Underwood will likely bring in a fifth year big. Lucas, Finke, Black, Coleman-Lands, Nichols are a good core to add to.

Long term, Illinois still has major advantages over NU.

Wasn't talking about the long-term if you read all of my posts here. There was posts that were stating here that there would be immediate impact next year. My claim is that is highly unlikely given what I stated in the post below. You are a reasonable poster, so I suspect that you will agree:

In basketball, Illini have won 22 of the last 28, 130-39 all-time. Dave Kaplan ( a Chicago guy) says Illinois is a top 20 job:
"the job is the premier basketball coaching position in a state that is perhaps the best in terms of prep basketball talent."
14th in NCAA wins,12th in winning pct, 22nd in NCAA tourney wins, 14th in FF appearances, 10th in collective AP poll appearances, 2nd in BIG conference wins, most BIG tournament wins. In the last 7 years, Illini have finished ahead of NW in BIG standings 5 times. In one of our worst years, we beat NW both games. NW gets in the NCAA tournament ONCE and all of the sudden they a have a dynasty! And, of course, NW plays in a high school sized gym.
In football, NW has won 6 of the last 10, but are 50-55-5 all-time vs Illini. U of I has never lost to ISU. Most BIG home games, there are more fans from the visiting team than there are the home team. NW football stadium compares favorably to a lower-level high school stadium in Texas.

Holy balls are you guys insecure.

Splendid analysis. You hit on all the clichés. Yes, our gym is small, but it suits our campus' size and fanbase. I like it, and I'm sure most on this board do, too. Bonus--it doesn't have a lame corporate name. And yes, our football stadium is small. Again, it suits our enrollment numbers and fanbase. Will you see many visiting fans at our home games? Sure! That'll happen with a small, internationally-dispersed alumni base and a stadium that is located in a major metropolis. I drive a compact car. Want to make fun of me for that, too? Besides, our game day atmosphere sure beats what you guys have going on:

Stunning. And I don't see any visiting fans?!? Strange that no one would want to take a trip to Rantoul to see incredibly well coached football.

I LOVE that this is getting you guys so worked up.

Statistics speak for themselves, NW won 6 of the last 10, 50-55-5.

Ha ha ha! Historical statistics are about as meaningful in today's "what have you done for me lately" sports environment as ANY of our varied opinions on the matter. Since you're such a fan of historical things, you could try printing out those statistics on your dot-matrix printer and then wiping yourself with the paper. I guess that's better than absolutely no value.

Chicago's Big Ten Team is on a roll! Go CATS!!! Now go do something useful, like help Lovie and the Mrs. pack for their move to a real city. If you just stop trolling on this NU board for a few minutes, you can go dig whatever his name a hole so he can be in Champaign-Rantoul forever.

Typical comments fans of losing programs make. Want to list your "winning" stats?

Nice Barney, how about 10 of the last 14 have been NU wins, Mr Stats. How about 5 straight losing seasons for you? A winning record in only 5 of the last 22 seasons. How about having to go back 10 years to find a season that you won over one more game than you lost. This is the definition of average or below average. So keep quoting stats built up on the 70's and 80's to make you feel better. Loser.

Yes, we sucked a quarter of a CENTURY ago. Sure you rember those games well.

We sucked so hard back then! I mean, we really, really sucked. Just awful.

That Bears team in 1985 was crazy good, though, right? I mean, Payton, Dent, Fridge, Singletary, freakin' McMahon... they kicked some serious ass!

Love discussing totally irrelevant nonsense. Let's keep going!

I agree that Illinois SHOULD be a premier program, but the absence of recent success is frankly glaring. Illinois should be among UNC, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky every year with the kind of talent within the state, let alone in Chicago by itself.

The fact that Illinois can't do better than Underwood, a 53-year-old hothead with no Sweet Sixteen appearances as a head coach, speaks volume about the perception of the program as a stepping stone for a top coach (Bill Self) or a destination for mediocre head coaches (Bruce Weber and now Underwood). Nobody would take Underwood over Chris Collins, Archie Miller, or Richard Pitino.

I think it's a good hire if you liked Bruce Weber. In fact I think the Illini fans are feeling inferior and lashing out.

No, fans of losing programs do exactly what you are doing. Come to another schools board because, maybe, the last two hires you made will, someday, somehow, make your school great again

Your little brother is bigger, better and more popular than you are. Enjoy living in the past.
