In basketball, Illini have won 22 of the last 28, 130-39 all-time. Dave Kaplan ( a Chicago guy) says Illinois is a top 20 job:
"the job is the premier basketball coaching position in a state that is perhaps the best in terms of prep basketball talent."
14th in NCAA wins,12th in winning pct, 22nd in NCAA tourney wins, 14th in FF appearances, 10th in collective AP poll appearances, 2nd in BIG conference wins, most BIG tournament wins. In the last 7 years, Illini have finished ahead of NW in BIG standings 5 times. In one of our worst years, we beat NW both games. NW gets in the NCAA tournament ONCE and all of the sudden they a have a dynasty! And, of course, NW plays in a high school sized gym.
In football, NW has won 6 of the last 10, but are 50-55-5 all-time vs Illini. U of I has never lost to ISU. Most BIG home games, there are more fans from the visiting team than there are the home team. NW football stadium compares favorably to a lower-level high school stadium in Texas.
