What was McCall thinking with that trick play to our punter, Kidd?

On 3rd down and long, Thorson acts like he is going to run the option to the short side of the field, then pulls back and tosses the ball about 40 yards down field to #87 who didn't fool anyone. I don't know who 87 is but the announcers said Kidd. WTH are we doing out there?

Dont we have any other wide outs to throw to on 3rd down other than a walk on true freshman? Why is he even on the field if we have 12 scholarship wide outs?

Kidd. Roberts was the underneath route. At any rate it wasnt open and flooding zones with our wr on short sides of the field simply isnt working. Without speed, we have to spread them out.
