1. We need a Punter and Kicker. Niswander has proven he is not the guy. Net average of 37 yards not even adequate for a high school punter. Simply can't live with him for two more years. Same goes for Mitchell. While Mitchell has a strong enough leg for kickoff duty, simply not consistent enough to be the kicker at a top level program.
2. Need Parker Westphal to step up. With VanHoose leaving, the four star,10th ranked cornerback in the nation (ESPN 300), needs to step up and be a solid starter next season. Fortunately, Roderick Campbell is coming in as insurance.
3. Need at least two of the following players to be very good wide receivers. Cameron Green, Flynn Nagel, Jelani Roberts, Ramauad Bowman, Ben Skowronek, Riley Lees. Unfortunately, only Roberts has "elite" speed. Adding more speed at the position should be a top priority in recruiting. Any transfer candidates out there?
4. Need a QB that is a passer first, and runner second. It's pretty obvious that Thorsen's best quality is his ability to run the football. He has proven to be a very inaccurate and inconsistent passer. He doesn't possess the throwing ability of the prior NU true "dual threat" QB's. Right now he is a "single threat" QB and every defensive coordinator in the conference will be keying on Jackson. Yates, incoming freshman Aidan Smith and even Matt Aviti (if he doesn't transfer) need to get a very good look. Unfortunately, knowing this HC, Thorsen is the guy forever, or at least until it's too late.
5. Need Jackson to stay healthy. Unless we come up with an effective passing game, it's likely Jackson will survive another year injury free. It's a shame, if he we had a serious passing attack, his numbers would be sick.
