I'll probably stay at one of the Hilton properties so I can get my Honors Points. We could do a Purple Party at any of the Vegas Strip restaurants by just agreeing to show up at around noon like we did for the Cal game several years ago. Anybody have any thoughts?

Linq Prominade has a load of options. There is a very nice sports bar there. Maybe LV NU club will organize something.
Edit: I’ve reached out to NU club of LV. Let me see what they say.

Alas, less than a year ago we could rely on the NU Alumni Association to set up a pretty damn good party for the NCAA BB Tourney with less than a week's notice. Fitz was amazing in that environment. It would be cool if they set one up for this year. They had good ones for regular road FB games - Maryland, Ohio State come to mind. Will NU set something up? IIRC correctly there was something for the Holiday Bowl but it was raining.

The most promising venue near the stadium appears to be Flanker's Kitchen, which is a little over 1/2 mile away. There is also Ri Ra - an Irish bar - and 1923 Prohibition - a cocktail bar - adjacent to one other in the same area in the Mandalay Bay / Delano complex.

For the Holiday Bowl a small WildcatReport group gathered in downtown San Diego during the day and in the late afternoon before the game the Alumni event was held just outside of one of the Stadium entrances. Since the Las Vegas game is also late in the day something similar could be expected,

FEIW. Whoever catered that alumni event in San Diego served the best beef brisket I’ve ever had.

Tailgate starts an hour and 45 minutes before kickoff? They clearly haven’t consulted Uber for tips on a successful tailgate.

I arrive Friday-no hotel yet but booking Harrah's X Country Review for Friday night-pretty girls dancing to country music has to be a good idea. I don't know what the X stands for.

Someone mentioned Mandalay Bay as being close to Allegiant Stadium-anyone staying there ?

Lol, need the sarcasm font for this post Doc. Either that or you are in for a nice surprise.

I'm staying at MB and can confirm it is very walkable to/from Allegiant. Rates are also good (less than $200/night for 22nd-23rd)

Luxor is also very conveniently located (considered a lower end property for those who are unfamiliar w/ Vegas but still clean and safe). New York New York is also a very walkable option and rates were less than $100/night when I looked last night. Would suggest avoiding Excalibur, which sits between Luxor and NYNY and is generally the worst strip property next to Circus Circus.

Couple of things.

Mandalay Bay is the official B1G hotel (https://lvbowl.com/hotels/)

The Las Vegas Bowl has partnered with two hotels to provide fans with discounted room rates during Bowl Week. Virgin Hotels Las Vegas hosts the Pac-12 team, while Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino hosts the Big Ten team.

For those there on the 22nd (looks like time TBD)

LAS VEGAS BOWL PEP RALLY, PRESENTED BY COCA-COLA
Friday, December 22 at the Event Lawn, Virgin Hotel

The annual tradition of the Pep Rally is a great opportunity for fans of both teams to truly get excited about the Las Vegas Bowl. Featuring the bands, cheerleaders, mascots and more, the Pep Rally on the Events Lawn at Virgin Hotel is full of the excitement that defines college football fans all over the country.

I think the "X" is simply the new name for "Twitter."

Good observations. I would have opted for MB if I was going to be spending any significant time at the hotel itself but all I needed was a place to crash the night before the game and will be flying out directly after our win.

So instead I opted for the Luxor at half the price. Also a remind that it appears all the Las Vegas strip properties have close to a $50 "resort fee" that one needs to add on to the published prices.

This is why I think we should meet at a local bar/restaurant for a Purple Party. Several of us are staying at the Mandalay Bay, including yours truly, and we could meet there and walk to the stadium.

I'm at the Mandalay Bay and so are a number of others.

I just booked Mandalay Bay for Dec 22-25. The room has 2 queen beds, so if anybody wants to share a room, contact me by private message but also post here to remind me to look at private messages. The total cost for 3 nights is about $645 or $215 per night/2 = 107.50 per night pp ((1,2 or 3 nights available).

Stick to Fremont Street folks. I haven't stayed on the strip in 30 years.
It's not all that close to the stadium, but for everything else, I think I'd rather spend more time downtown than the Strip. The Strip is a shadow of what it was 30 years ago: overpriced and run down*. Fremont Street is where the party is.

*(I'm sure those splurging for the Bellagio and the like will still get nice rooms, but beware the "bargains" on the Strip.)

May I suggest the board members assemble at Ri Ra 12 noon, adjacent to Mandalay Bay and Allegiant Stadium. Maybe it will bring Irish luck to NU like Dublin 2022. It has Guiness, Smithwick's and typical Irish and American lunch items. Florida Alum has bequeathed to me the beers anyone owes him and I will collect at Ri Ra.

I will start a poll to get a feeling for interest in warming up at Ri Ra before the game. I organized a pre game gathering in Berkeley before the Cal game that attracted a pretty good crowd including many players' family members

Let's try to get the word out

For those staying at the Mandalay Bay, you'll be delighted to hear that it's the NU team hotel! I got 4 nights on Expedia for about $760 including taxes and resort fees. The rate was $125 per night

This is a great idea. You did an excellent job in Berkeley as well. I really enjoyed that one, and I'll bet we get parents of players at Ri Ra also

The Poll is now on the Florida Alum Board=I hope to get a rough head count to prepare Ri Ra if there is a large response

There will be a pre-game party at Ri Ra Irish Pub in the Shoppes at Mandalay Bay beginning 12 noon for drinks and lunch. There is a poll in the sticky threads above the Florida Alum section to record your interest. Hopefully many board members and players' parents will attend. Post on that link how many will be attending

Wish I could be there. Had I not just gone to Vegas a month ago to see U2 and was not hosting family for the holiday I would try!

As usual, I'll be hanging with my 96-year-old Mom in IL for the holidays, but I have some advice for those who will be in Las Vegas and want the best & cheapest steak dinner.

As Chief Engineer at a TV Station in Tucson, I would spend a week in Vegas every April from 1981-2016 at the National Association Broadcasters Convention. Of course, our station group would have a corporate dinner at the President’s favorite restaurant. During my tenure, I had 3 different owners. They favored the usual suspects, Smith & Wolensky, Ruth Criss, Mortons, etc.

My first year at NAB as Chief, we had already done the corporate stuff & the Corp Big-Wigs had split, the engineers stay behind for the Network Affiliate Engineering meetings. On our own, the Chiefs were debating where we should go to dinner. Our Chief from Omaha suggested The Steak House at Circus Circus. We all started to laugh & he got pissed. “I’m from Omaha & you don’t think I know a great steak!”

OK, so we gave it a shot. Back then, if you didn’t know it was there you would walk right past it at Circus Circus. They just had a little stand with a sign on it outside of a door (they have since spiffed up the entrance). So you open the door & walk down this narrow hallway – on the left is a glass wall with the Midwestern beef aging before your eyes. There are no windows in the place so if a dining view of The Strip is required for your dining experience this place is not for you.

Not only do they have the best steaks, but the complete meal is included in one price – unlike the aforementioned Big Name steak houses, where all of the extras (salad, potato, veggie, etc.) are ala carte.

At The Steak House:
As always, dinner includes fresh baked breads, Chef’s vegetable and your choice of black bean soup or house salad and garlic mashed potato, baked potato or wild rice blend. Tri-color peppercorn sauce and cheddar cheese sauce are available upon request.”

https://www.circuscircus.com/restaurants-1/the-steak-house/

For many years you could just walk right in & get a table, but word of mouth got around & reservations are highly recommended.

So if you find yourself at the North part of the Strip, this is the place to go if you are in the mood for a great steak!

Great stuff. Ruth Chris and Mortons I am quite familiar with but have never been to a Smith & Wolensky. That steak house at Circus Circus sounds great.
