First time I ever went to Vegas was for the NU game in 2001. Made it off my flight home on September 10, about 12 hours before Everything Started.

Who else was there in 2001? Fun trip.

I was there with friend/alum. I was able to parlay some money I won on slots to bet on the game. I think this was the first year you could bet on UNLV home games in Vegas. We were up by a lot going into the 4th quarter but UNLV started launching the ball on every down. Those in our section who bet on the game got a little nervous. In the end we won by enough and my winnings paid for my trip. It was a fun experience. Hard to believe that was over 20 years ago!

I was there. Met up with FloridAlum. Blue Man Group did the National Anthem. It was an excellent time.

I was there. If I remember right, the spread was Cats -3.5 and late in the game some people in the crowd were chanting "Win by 4! Win by 4!"

I was there, with my dad's Billionaire friend. Casino catering to this high roller (and us two hangers on) ended up in the UNLV president's box... we walked in wearing purple and everyone turned around to look at us.

When the Cats rolled in the second half, we had to restrain our celebration because the UNLV president and chancellor were 5 seats away!

Yep, went back to my brother-in-laws in Phoenix after the game. Then got stranded in Phoenix for about 4 days when all the flights were cancelled.

Only a few things I remember about UNLV:
1) They served hard liqour at the concessions.
2) The parking lot was dirt.
3) UNLV stunk.

We were there in 2001, saw FloridAlum and others. My wife was pregnant with our son (now a college senior) so she couldn't whoop it up...we hadn't announced yet as we weren't even at 3 months yet, but everyone we knew figured it out quickly enough. On the night before the game we saw George Carlin perform, fulfilling a lifelong wish of mine to see him live, the only time I ever saw him in person. Combine that with the Cats win and it was a great few days in Vegas we'll always remember.

Didn’t attend but I remember watching the game on TV at a sports bar in Billings with a couple fellow NU alums. And then … the world changed.

I was there. Hosted the after party in the bellagio top floor suite. It was a great weekend and night.

I was there and remember that our group of fraternity brothers kept buying out the stadium vendor selling Mai Tai's every time he appeared in our section. I also remember us all going nuts when NU covered the spread!

I was there with Mrs. Amat. Fun game and time in Las Vegas. Only time I’ve seen the Cats on the road. We were there with a group of friends for the weekend. Crazy how the world changed after that weekend.

I was at the 2001 game. It was kind of a bizarre experience. I didn't know the layout at Vegas, so I assumed the stadium would be close to the UNLV campus. So we hopped into a taxi from our hotel and rode for so long that I thought the driver must be scamming us, but he wasn't. The stupid stadium was out in the middle of nowhere, and the cab cost us $50 (not cheap now, but a lot of money 22 years ago.) I couldn't believe they served cocktails at the stadium. We sat in extreme heat on the Northwestern side, gulping overpriced water. I remember some sort of brawl broke out in the UNLV stands the second half (maybe they'd had too many cocktails).

We scored fairly easily during the game, but the pass defense was terrible (not uncommon during the Walker era), which made for some nervous moments. It was good to get out of there with a win, and at that time I certainly didn't suspect the season would go down the toilet within a few weeks.

Managed to catch a ride with a friend and fellow alum and his group after the game, saving a $50 return cab ride. Some drunken UNLV students swiped the NU flag off my friend's car, but one of our group, a 6-6, 315-pound former lineman, helped persuade them they ought to give it back.

We went to LA from Vegas to visit my former Northwestern roommate in Hollywood and left from there to go the Grand Canyon, where we ended up on the morning of 9/11. Later drove a rental car 2,400-some miles home to Pennsylvania. Fortunately, we had an unlimited miles deal on the rental. Hertz didn't make out well on that one.

It was certainly one of the more memorable weeks of my life.
