Over the winter, the resurgence of Nebraska under Scott Frost and the continued rise of Purdue under Jeff Brohm were two of the most pushed narratives in the B1G media. While Brohm can rightly point to injuries that have crippled his offense, the Purdue defense has still not come together on the third year of his watch.
Nebraska’s Martinez has been dinged up from time to time, but Frost doesn’t seem to have magic coaching powder that can overcome the inexperience and lack of depth on both sides of the ball.

The helmsman Fleck is looking like the most successful of the bunch, but with PSU, Iowa and Wisconsin still on the schedule, 3 losses in the next 4 games would not be surprising.

So much for hype.

Brohm and Frost built top-25 teams at WKU and UCF. They didn't forget how to coach. They just ran into a league with 12 good coaches and the losses have to go somewhere (other than the 2 east coast teams).

The best bet is to stick with your guy and wait for attrition to weaken other programs. Nebraska, Purdue, etc would have a tough time finding better.

I pretty much agree. I think the takeaway is more that there is no real coaching magic that can take a team with critical deficiencies and create a real contender instantly, and that the media misinterpreted glimmers of success into more than they were.

Don't forget COTY Paddy Fitzgerald. Hasn't been a bigger comedown from Divisional Champs to the craptastic results we see today.

Sorry, but the Cats were picked near the bottom of the division. There was no preseason hype around Fitz. Some pundits had the Huskers in the playoff.

Disagree. Great coaches are great coaches anywhere. It’s possible Scott Frost isn’t a great coach. PJ Fleck probably is.

Purdue’s defense has almost as many injuries on defense as offense....Including our best defenders. The media just tends to play up the Offense side injuries.
