Why close the “Collins’ Future” thread?

Because it will get back all those people who stopped posting here because they don't like the present iteration of the basketball board.

You know, all those folks that could have easily just started posting in The Rock instead and turned it into a riveting basketball discussion board. Yet, weirdly, didn't.

It started to devolve and had gone on long enough, no one is breaking any new ground there, so I closed up shop and we can all try again the next time it inevitably comes up throughout the season. Also it was late and I didn't feel like going through and deleting so many posts. Threads can always be unlocked at a later point.

I had mixed feelings about it also, but you could tell the direction it was going with the usual repetitive campaign.

Smart move, Cappy. Hopefully, the group grows and needs less attention in a year.

Cappy, I for one wouldn't mind if you closed all threads when they get to about 120 posts. Except maybe ones like the "Coaching Carousel" where there's new info being provided. At that point they all tend to devolve into the same points being repeated by the same contributors.

Reactions: Sec.112
I would offer that this could be a bit short-sighted, as many of us try to use new information to add to our opinions. Even, and maybe especially, if they support our prior conclusions, new information sharing should be encouraged.

Cappy if you go back and look at that thread I think you might admit that you acted a little early in shutting it down. As you said, it was late, you were tired....
The only comment that gets somewhat personal is clarificationcat getting upset with me for answering a direct question after he posted a reasonable set of arguments. I responded with a reasonable set of arguments.
But is that one reaction really enough to shut down a thread that hadn't come close to offending most people?

Might be interesting to be able to keep the thread going and look back at what people were saying at the start of the season... Besides, it might also confine the Collins talk (primarily) to one single thread...

I think in technical terms it's called the Purple White Boy Effect.

I'm not going to put a hard limit on things, but when I see things start to spiral and people start snipping at each other, then yes, I will close them.
It's fine. People can start a new one if they want. Some of these zombie threads grow tiresome after a while
