Seems the prevailing story line in the college football media today is the football game was in the bag for Nebraska when Frost went for the onside kick. All he had to do was manage the game not to lose it. But he got aggressive, let Northwestern back into the game with a bonehead decision, and lost.

Perhaps. But why did he do it? He's not an idiot. Why did he take the risk up by 11 points?

My guess is he knew if this became a one score game in the fourth qtr, Fitz would find a way to win it. Frost's team would collapse under the pressure of their abysmal performance in close games. If Northwestern received the kick and marched the length of the field for a TD, he feared Neb would lose. Hence, go for the kill with a surprise onside kick, right then and there, to avoid both his own back luck and Fitz' one-possession game voodoo.

As the saying goes, you make your own luck, both good and bad. Frost created his and the Fitz voodoo won in the end again.
