Worst coaching hire off-topic discussion

Rick Venturi - Northwestern (1-31-1)
He may have had the worst record but hard to say he was that bad of a hire. Take a good look at the support NU gave him. He may have been the coach during the worst of the dark ages but he was not the one that got us there, Johnny Pont did that as both HC and Athletic Director but that is what Robert Strotz wanted as he thought we should be in the Ivy League

And actually, didn't he get a gig as HC for an NFL team afterwards?

B1G coaches on other B1G coaches (discuss the Cats first)

Difficult to have an identity on O, much less develop QBs when they're under duress all the time.

The Cats had no identity on D under JON as well, except for suckage.

Yeah we did. Read and Don't React. That was our identity.

There are hires that were predictably terrible and ones that turned out to not to work out. JON's hire falls in the first category and therefore is a candidate for worse coach hire. Rich Rod, for example, had success at W. Va., but it just didn't work out in the end.

Rich Rod wasn’t one that just didn’t work out in the end. It was a bad hire and most of us old timers said so from the get go.
