I also recall playing on frozen grass after ice storms. Bleeding. Lots of bleeding.

I played in a Varsity Reserve game against Illinois on a rain-soaked practice field that had comparable footing. We won on a long run for a TD, 6-0. There was a huge puddle on the field with a pipe in the middle sticking an inch out of the water. Linemen would line up with palms facing toward their opponent, ready to throw water up in their faces. They were the worst playing conditions I've ever experienced for a game at any level, and it was a riot!
