Memba This?

Too much time elapsed for anyone to memba last time.

Let's not make that same mistake twice.

Memba this?

Agreed.

The level of discourse is severely lacking and I didn't want to believe it had anything to do with their sportsmanship, but the evidence is piling up.

Fun Fact:

Northwestern's vaunted defense was ranked #7 in the nation. After playing Tennessee it dropped 5 spots in one game all the way out of the top ten down to #12.

What this means:

One can only wonder what rank their defense would be had they played in the SEC all year.

I gonna do y'all a solid and give some instruction on how to watch game film.

Here is some great video on the Damn Yankees.

Now these guys go back to the 1990s--well before the advent of the spread and the read option, but it doesn't really matter. Cuz watchin' is watchin' film. Got it?

Now follow along as I take you through several sequences in this here film.

0:00-0:30: This initial sequence is quite revealing about game strategy, or lack thereof. Suspect A runs unarmed into a wood frame house. 8 officers, weapons drawn, quickly surround the front porch. Smart, right?

CONCLUSION: There are several strategic errors here. First, the rear of the house is uncovered. Every house has a back door right? Suspect A could just easily run out the back and be on his way to KFC while the officers fumble into position. Also, the deputies arrange themselves in a crescent, putting the outer officers in the line of potential crossfire. This is a Darwinian moment waiting to happen. This certainly looks like poor coaching and preparation, but also terrible positional awareness and missed assignments.

1:00-3:00 The next several sequences introduce us to Suspect A and Suspect B--our romantic couple turned small time robbers. Now these two look like quite a solid team--she is a striking blonde and he is a sculpted gent, but their technique is questionable at best. Why is she driving the getaway car? This vastly under utilizes her physical appearance, which would be much more effective used as a decoy and distraction when holding up any liquor store. She just as easily could lure the proprietor into the back storeroom with promises of illicit pleasure, while her partner grabs the cash AND the big bottle of Chivas.

CONCLUSION: This is not poor coaching as much as it is poor on-the-field instincts. Robbing a liquor store is a very dynamic and unpredictable situation, and the perpetrators must be prepared for any eventuality. But the simple grab and run technique is a high risk / low reward approach. Their scripted approach commits them to one set of tactics with little flexibility. Her talents are wasted by being in the wrong position, and during the hurried getaway he takes a bad angle and nearly misses the front seat. Just bad technique all around.

3:15 This begins a very special and exciting sequence, and one that merits your close attention. Not only is Ted Nugent a master of rock guitar, he is also a consummate showman. Marvel at his technique. Now these backcountry sheriffs deputies could not hit the broad side of a barn with a bazooka, but still, TED DEFLECTS THE BULLETS WITH HIS ROCK AND ROLL.

CONCLUSION: This is 5 star talent. There are very few guys in spandex with the eye-hand coordination skilled enough to deflect bullets at such close range. And to add to this, we also see at the end of the film that Mr. Nugent is very adept at disguising his actions. This guy could excel at Bama.

This is just a small example of how you can scout an opponent through video. Our review has focused on team strategy and tactics, as well as individual attributes of athleticism and judgment. I hope you enjoyed it.

This is a much better piece of film for study. It shows Bill Munny teaching the viewer that all justice is relative, that morality is conditional, and that "good" people and "bad" people are often opposite sides of the same coin. This is the grey area that so many Eastwood characters inhabit.
