Welp, it's IL week...

I can say honestly there is no other team I loathe than IL. If they lose at swimming it makes me smile. A few of my favorite interactions with their esteemed fan base:

Leaving Ryan Field after one of our beat downs of them and a fan yelled "well at least we have basketball, what do you have chess" I responded STFU, nothing else was said.

Leaving Ryan Field after the 21 game a fan yelled at me "how do you like that", I gave him the finger and he looked scared. He was about a 50 year old slob, dorkish nature.

Once again leaving Ryan Field after we whooped them and the AD making eye contact with me and like glaring. I gave him a look and laughed. Mind you I said nothing and was talking to my buddy heading to the car. Dude reminds me of Uncle Fester.

It’s Decision Time

Northwestern University has to make a decision if it’s going to be serious about football or not. What they’re doing now isn’t working and never will under the current system. The rules have changed and the BigTen Conference is tough and getting tougher. Doing things the old-fashioned way ain’t gonna cut it.

To be competitive Northwestern has no choice but to ease admissions for athletes (i.e. Duke, Stanford, ND, etc.), implement a very serious (and rich) NIL program and get aggressive in the portal. Everyone else is doing it and NU is going to get trampled if they don’t move now and move strong. The beauty of this crazy system is that you can get good fast if you know what you’re doing and use the system correctly to get the talent at key positions. (i.e. Indiana)

It’s sink of swim time.

Before My First Gin and Tonic

After watching this completely disgraceful performance, I have a few thoughts. None of these will be surprising.

1. Priebe is not good, but as mentioned in another thread, he would be our best.
2. Today reminded me of the days where our starters hung for about half the game and then collapsed into the Dark Place.
3. Jack Lausch is a very good athlete, who plays with heart and grit. I loved the fact he came to NU. To this point his body of work is not good.
4. We have very few, if any actual playmakers or threats. Opponents really have no one to worry about. 5.
5. Both lines are undersized, not very athletic, slow, weak and not physical.
6. Why is Hilinski playing and not Wright in garbage time?
7. We played with heart last week and didn't even show up today. That's on the players first and the Coaches second IMO.
8. We are not as bad as Purdue or maybe Maryland, but we are trying to show we are.
9. The Ryan family and Donors have given $$$$ for our "palace on the lake" and now the "the venue to come near Mustard's". Instead of Edifices being built to Beatify the Ryan's, put the money in a pot to get players that we can get through Kathleen Hagerty's near impossible admission policies.
10. I am having my first Gin and Tonic now.
11. Is Braun the HC we need? I like him and his enthusiasm and resume as a DC and Interim HC. He is learning on the job and doesn't blame others. To me he is the work in progress. He has shown leadership skills, but I don't believe he is ready to be a HC yet though he is due to circumstances beyond anyones control.
12. My opinion only. Fitz deserves to be the HC still of this program and he was royally screwed. I am still a fan and even if 50% of the accusations are true, almost every Coach in the country has committed or witnessed more egregious accusations than what he was terminated for.
13. What Schill, Gragg, Hagerty , Peter Barris and His Minions on the BOT have done to Fitz and the Football Program is truly Criminal.
14. The announcers today spoke of the fact that Braun and the NU Football Program's future was "bright and promising is complete and total BS!!!
15. Unfortunately College Football has become more of a corporate entity than before. This is the new landscape of the sport and either Hagerty retires is fired and Schill, Gragg are terminated now, we will once again be the Doormat of the Big Whatever!!!

Now I can have my Cocktails.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

I try not to blame the ventriloquist dummy

If a ventriloquist dummy insults you, you don't get mad at the dummy.

Lausch is a symptom, not the problem. It's not his fault that he can't do the job. By all accounts, hes putting in the work (unlike Hilinski, who seems to be just enjoying life). I'm not sure he'd start at any other FBS program. And he's not a kid, he's 11 games into his 3rd year of college football.

Likewise guys like Carsello or our geriatric tight ends. They just aren't good enough despite years in the program.

We got thrashed by the worst Mich team since RichRod and it looks like the team quit.

I don't get it. Braun seemed like a godsend last year. This year, he's like a deer in the headlights on GameDay. And the team looks slow, weak, and unprepared.

Sigh. I'll see you guys at Wrigley.

All the games I cared about today were blowouts.

I think this will become more pronounced in the future as the professional teams separate themselves from the college teams.

I think eventually the FBS will split into two divisions, with the pro teams forming the FPS (Football Professional/Playoff Subdivision) while the college teams continue as the FBS to play in bowl games and give up on the arms race.

69-0

It was the beginning of the Dark Ages. Northwestern was 3-2, coming off a 30-0 whitewashing of Indiana when they went to Ann Arbor and lost 69-0 in October of 1975. I'll never forget listening to that disaster on radio. And that really began the precipitous nosedive of Wildcat football that lasted until 1995. I sure hope history does NOT repeat itself.

West Lot Pirates

Just wondering… and will save this for the premium board…

Will they continue not to call out Lujan?

Will they continue not to call out Braun?

Will they continue not to call out Lausch, or any other individual players for that matter?

The podcast used to be a must-listen for me and I’m sure most of you. Speaking for the small but fierce fanbase. But sure seems they have fallen in love with the “access” they’ve been given.

Failing to go for it on 4th and 1, and then walking away from a massive Himon return with zero points, is damning for Lausch, Lujan and Braun. An embarrassing show.

Oh well!! Really cool tailgating experience!!

My Main Worry

There’s a lot to worry about with this team (pretty much all of it), but this is another game where it just looks like we’ve quit. Get punched in the mouth and then submission. No fight.

That’s a real bad sign. Sure, Michigan is better than us, but this is a team with a bad offense and they’ve methodically marched down the field pretty much at will all day. Feels like a lot of quit on both sides of the ball. Nobody winning one on one battles.
