Photos of Ryan Field Demolition/Construction

As I passed the stadium this morning I saw the first noticeable demolition. The brick exterior wall of the ticket office was starting to be taken down. I'm not aware of NU setting up a webcam for this project, like they did with WRA. However, I pass the stadium nearly every day and plan to occasionally post pictures so others can track the progress. I hope others will contribute pictures as well. Most of my pictures will be taken from a moving bus on Central St. so it'll be a limited view of the site.

EDIT: After a second look the wall is still standing. It was obscured by a large piece of equipment when I passed by yesterday. There had been activity over the last couple of weeks that seemed like they were clearing out the interior of the ticket office. I wouldn't be surprised if it's one of the first sections to go when the demolition does begin.

EDIT2: NU sent an email this morning saying the demolition was set to begin.

Here are a few pictures from the past week, mostly of staging equipment and erecting the perimeter fence. Maybe at some point I'll figure out how to embed images here. :)

Facilities rankings

NORTHWESTERN WILDCATS (NO. 13; +12 SPOTS)

Where Northwestern ranked in 2018: N/R

Northwestern made a monumental leap in 2021 and continues to hang around the top 15 in 2024 thanks to a practice facility that is, undoubtedly, college football's most majestic. Standing outside of Northwestern's 450,000-square football facility on the shores of Lake Michigan, you'd think this was college football's Mecca — not a program that's itching to break into the realm of being a consistent threat. There was almost instantaneous criticism over Northwestern's quarter-billion dollar project that serves only a tiny percentage of Northwestern's student body, but the noise has quieted since.

Not sure if they're aware that the Palace by the Lake is open to use by other sports, but still, a small fraction of the student body.

Wish the lockerroom design was a bit more modern/sleek and more in line with the rest of the facility.

Football Tix - New information

I haven’t seen anyone post so I thought I’d share.

First I will share that my new tix rep did not seem excited on the call this week. I was shocked. He said he came to the job last year because he was told the stadium was supposed to start last year and be complete for fall 2025 now it’s 2026. He had experience in LA with the Chargers and new stadium with “contributions.”

2. Tix at Wrigley will be sold by the cubs directly. Season tix holders will have first access but you will be able to buy actual seats not just request a section. This is a change from previous years.

3. The Ryans are driving the bus for how tix will be priced in the new stadium. I asked my rep to repeat himself twice.

The Ryan’s donated 700m to the new stadium and the athletic department will work with them to decide on tix price. Contribution costs etc.

I was shocked but maybe we shouldn’t be. The Ryan’s run Northwestern.

What we know about next year's non-conference schedule

I've started seeing announcement of non-conference games for next season. So far I think this is all we know about next year's non-conference slate:

DePaul (12/21/24 @ WRA)
Arizona State (@ United Center)
@ Dayton

That leaves a lot of games left to figure out. The Gavitt Games series is over. I assume we'll be in a non-conference tournament. Usually those are announced pretty far in advance, but I don't recall anything for NU and I'm not seeing anything online either. Hopefully there will be a couple more power conference opponents. I assume the rest will be the usually parade of sub-200 teams. Next season we should work on blowing those teams out.

One More Transfer?

I know Lou V's last post about this suggested that we may done with the transfer portal, but it feels like we need another contributor (particularly a guard or wing) to round out the roster and solidify our depth. It'd be surprising and disappointing if we're really not pursuing another transfer, but I haven't seen us connected to anybody recently. Any chatter out there about a final transfer candidate?

New temporary stadium promises 'great experience on the lakefront'

I talked to Jesse Marks of the NU Athletic Department to get an in-depth look at NU's new temporary lakefront stadium.

Lawsuits and Directly Salaried Players

I haven’t followed this lawsuit closely, but it sure looks like it’s about to be another very large and fundamental tap change to the current order of affairs in college football
