Big Ten Season Tie Breaking Rules

With the new 18 team conference there is a very good chance for a few teams to be tied for first place at the end of the season.

Here are the rules if that happens.

The list of tiebreaking criteria in order, according to the Big Ten, is:
  1. Head-to-head results during the regular season
  2. Record against all common conference opponents
  3. Record against mutual conference opponents with best record
  4. Best Big Ten winning percentage of conference opponents
  5. Highest ranking by SportSource Analytics after the regular season
  6. Random draw of tied teams

Best seats in the house?

I’m going to the game on Saturday and curious about the board’s opinion on the best place to sit.

50 yard line is almost always awesome but I’m concerned that 8-10 rows up on the west sideline stands won’t be enough up to get a good view of the game (especially since it’s my kid’s first game).

Am I better off being 15-20 rows up in the south end zone?

Recruit Roundup: Eight 2025 commits make senior debuts

The recruit roundup is back! Eight players in the Class of 2025 have made their senior debuts, check out this week's roundup to see how they played. The IHSA and the other stragglers kick off next week, so we are scheduled to have all 18 in play soon enough. We also plan to follow 2026 QB commit Johnny O'Brien at Fremd this season.

Cats Favored By Less Than A Field Goal Vs Miami OH

Opened at 3.5, current consensus is 2.5. Low total opened 43.5, down one to 42.5. Hard not to see Fitz's uninspiring non-con history influencing the market. Hopefully Braun starts a trend of coming out of the gates strong. Rutgers shouldn't be held against him.

Lausch and Wright locked in heated but respectful QB battle

I talked to quarterbacks Mike Wright and Jack Lausch after fall practice on Monday about Northwestern's latest quarterback battle.

Big Ten Week One Schedule: Dreams Really Do Come True!

We’ve got four games in the early slot, across three networks. (Fox, FS1, BTN)

We’ve got the Cats and three other teams in the afternoon slot, across three networks. (CBS, Fox, BTN).

We’ve got three games in the evening slot, across three networks. (CBS, NBC, BTN).

And we’ve got one game in the HOLY CRAP FOR SICKOS ONLY slot, 10 pm Central, on BTN.

I know it’ll mess up ‘body clocks’ and that NU once blamed a west coast loss on messed up napping schedules (a wholly reasonable culprit), but I hope the FOR SICKOS ONLY time slot is maintained whenever there’s a west coast home game.

Also, we’ve got a whole new set of preseason patsies to familiarize ourselves with.

UCLA gets to whoop up on the Rainbows. Washington gets to pound whatever Weber State is (the fighting Harold Arceneaus?). Oregon trounces the Idaho Vandals (?). And USC gets to embarrass the Bayou Bengals in Baton Rouge (maybe).

YOU GUYS I AM SO READY TO WATCH 14 STRAIGHT HOURS OF BIG TEN FOOTBALL. (Don’t tell my wife. I’ll be outside, “pulling weeds” while watching on my phone.)

I am over my grumble-grumble expansion misgivings. I even thought of Maryland as a ‘traditional opponent’ when I was looking at the schedule yesterday.

New Wildside leadership

I saw on social media an announcement about the 2024 leadership of the Wildside. They listed about eight students. They were all given the chance to name their top one or two NU sports. Almost all of them chose basketball. Only one listed football. Almost all of their favorite memories were basketball games. Changing of the guard on campus! Fitz was a fixture on campus among students, especially as an alum. It's going to be a painful rebuild, but Braun's off to a good start. And I hope the lakefront will be a unique experience for the couple of games the students can attend.
